Top 10 Texas Panhandle football performers from Week 5

Walker Maupin, Gruver, RB, Sr. 

Maupin was an absolute machine behind his devasting offensive line during Gruver’s 62-20 blowout victory at Guymon, Okla., on Thursday night. Maupin ran through and past the Tiger defense burning the grass for 304 yards on only eight carries, popping off 38 yards per carry with four touchdowns.

Nathan Martens, Muleshoe, QB, Sr.

For a second straight week, Muleshoe quarterback Nathan Martens his opponents secondary scratching their head. In the Mules’ 63-48 win over Clyde, Martens was on point going 25-of-33 for 425 yards with an eye-popping seven touchdowns. That gives Martens 881 passing yards over the past two games with 11 touchdowns.

Jackson Graves, Wheeler, DL, Jr. 

Wheeler’s defensive end Jackson Graves was on a mission in a 56-0 blanking of Sanford-Fritch on Friday night. Graves Simply couldn’t be blocked and was constantly making it miserable for the Eagles backfield. Graves ended his outing racking up 10 tackles, nine of those for a loss with an incredible seven sacks.

Boston Bell, Canyon, QB, Sr. 

Bell had arguably his best performance of the season helping Canyon outscore Piedra Vista, N.M. 44-30 on Homecoming at Happy State Bank Stadium. Bell was extremely efficient completing 22-of-27 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

Jude Dunavin, Amarillo High, RB, Jr. 

Dunivan stepped up in a huge way during the Amarillo High Sandies shootout 50-42 win at Lubbock Monterey in the district opener on Friday night. Behind a steady offensive line, Dunivan did his job with tough running piling up 134 yards on 22 carries with a pair of TDs. He also caught a 22-yard pass from quarterback Jett Lopez for another score.

Gordo Estrada, Perryton, WR, Soph. 

The Perryton Rangers offense had a breakout performance snapping a three-game losing skid defeating Pampa 49-7 at home Friday. The speedy Estrada was a part of that sensational offensive effort as the sophomore snagged eight catches from quarterback Cooper Schilling for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Armando Lujan, Sunray, QB-DB, Sr. 

Known more for his offense, the high-profile quarterback QB let his defense do the talking as Sunray took down Canadian 30-20 in a small school showdown at Bobcats Stadium on Friday. Lujan did throw for 160 yards with two touchdowns, he was a ballhawk in the secondary picking off three Canadian passes.

Caiden Crooks, Panhandle, DB, Sr. 

Panhandle’s offense gets a ton of credit, but it has been the defense making a wave through the non-district portion of the schedule. That showed once again as Panhandle stayed unbeaten by downing Wellington at home 41-21. Crooks played a key role on defense finishing the game with seven sacks and an interception.

David Molina, Tulia, QB, Sr. 

What an offensive outing for Molina and his Tulia offense during a huge road win 42-35 against Lamesa. The senior gunslinger definitely had his best game on the year completing 21-of-33 passes for 334 yards with three touchdowns. Molina added 82 yards rushing on 15 carries with two more TDs.

Angel Lara, Bovina, RB, Jr. 

Lara helped lift Bovina to a big road win at Smyer 28-12 on Friday. Toting the rock 27 times, Lara was able to blister the Bobcat defense for 219 yards rushing with three touchdowns.
