Bushland stifles West Plains
The third time wasn’t the charm for West Plains, as the Bushland Falcons beat the Wolves for a third straight year and the second straight time at home 28-15 on Friday night at a jam-packed Falcons Stadium.
The Wolves, who lost the programs first ever game to the Falcons two years ago, fall to 2-2 on the year while the high-flying Falcons stay unbeaten at 4-0 and are one of seven Texas Panhandle teams that remain undefeated.
The Falcons defense kept West Plains one dimensional and unbalanced most of the contest holding the Wolves to 82 yards on the ground and 329 total yards.
Bushland also kept a powerful West Plains offense out of the endzone through the first two quarters taking a 14-3 lead into the break.
The Wolves put together scores late, but the Falcons defense was the story. Linebacker Jaxon Fetsch finished with 12 tackles, three for a loss and a pass breakup. Colton Strickland had four tackles with a pair of interceptions and safety Ty Purcell went for nine tackles with a pick.
On the offensive side, Purcell had three catches for 51 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Quaid Ferris finished the game 18-of-25 for 258 yards with four TD tosses with one interception.
West Plains quarterback Reid Macon was 29-of-43 for 274 yards and two touchdowns but did have three interceptions. Receiver Kaden Hooker had five for 87 yards.
Dalhart blanks Friona
After suffering their first loss of the year last week, the Dalhart Golden Wolves bounced back in a big way by blanking struggling Friona 36-0 at home on Friday night at Golden Wolves Stadium.
The Dalhart offense racked up 356 yards to Friona’s 190 total yards with 88 coming on the ground.
Dalhart quarterback Hunter Trusler, who is replacing injured Kyler Read, was much more comfortable under center going 9-of-13 for 161 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns and ran for 47 yards with two more scores.
Colt Carnesecca led Dalhart with 86 yards receiving and Talon Garcia caught a touchdown pass for the Golden Wolves.
Panhandle stays hot routing River Road
Panhandle stayed red hot and spoiled River Road’s Homecoming in the process thanks to a 51-7 drubbing of the Wildcats on Friday night.
The Panthers continue to play stellar football and are now off to a 4-0 start. River Road suffers its first loss on the year dropping to 2-1.
Rush Waltersheid ran right by the Wildcat defense for 165 yards on 11 carries finding the endzone three times.
Quarterback Broxton Robinson was a near perfect 17-of-18 for 286 yards passing with a TD pass. Robinson tacked on 46 yards rushing with another score and Caden Armes led the receivers with four catches for 83 yards and a TD.
Non-district quick hit
- Lamesa ran away from Dimmitt for a 48-36 victory. It’s the Tors first win on the year as the Bobcats fall to 1-3. Despite the loss, Dimmitt quarterback Jack Lunsford threw for 232 yards with two touchdown passes and ran for 96 yards with three more scores.
