Amarillo High places second in gold bracket of Pearland Tournament

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies under new head coach Haleigh Burns had a great showing at the Pearland Tournament from Thursday to Saturday.

The Lady Sandies 6-3 overall over the three days, however, did get to the finals of the gold bracket before falling to Wylie East 25-16, 21-25, 18-25 on Saturday.

Dripping Springs won the overall title of the tournament defeating Argyle in three sets, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22, in the championship bracket.

AHS (7-3 overall) opened the tournament with sweeps of Grandbury (25-12, 25-14) and Alamo Heights (25-13, 25-13), then picked up two more victories on Friday over St. John’s Epis. (25-15, 25-17) and Barber’s Hill (25-19, 25-17).

During Saturday’s bracket play, the Lady Sandies knocked off Flour Bluff 22-25, 26-24, 25-21 and Fort Worth Boswell 23-25, 25-12, 25-22 before falling to Wylie East in the finals.

Senior standout Sienna Cavalier had a massive weekend leading AHS with 122 kills. Bennett Rea and Payton Cash paced the offense combining for 205 assists and Ellen Head hit the floor for 74 digs and served up 24 aces.

Texas Panhandle makes a mark at Mansfield Tournament 

The defending UIL Class 3A state champion Bushland Lady Falcons have picked up where they left off last season thanks to a great outing at the Mansfield Tournament on Thursday through Saturday.

The Lady Falcons (9-2 overall) went 7-2 over the three days. During Saturday’s championship bracket, Bushland fell in the quarterfinal to Lake Ridge 26-24, 25-22 but were able to bounce back to claim fifth place with victories over Canyon (25-22, 25-23) and Midlothian Heritage (25-22, 25-12).

Ambree Hatfield and Lilly Ann Shannon provided the power. Hatfield totaled 50 kills over the three days with Shannon adding 47. Mackenzie Sims ran the offense dishing out 93 assists with Avery Ramos getting 112 digs.

Tascosa won the silver medal bracket thanks to a 3-0 record on Saturday. The Lady Rebels went 7-2 over the three days and are 7-3 overall.

During the silver bracket play, the Lady Rebels picked up wins over Richland (25-22, 21-25, 25-20), then Choctaw (25-23, 25-21) and won the silver bracket handling Waxahachie in three-sets, 25-18, 22-25, 25-11.

Saphina Stanley was named to the All-Tournament team tallying 65 kills over the nine games with eight blocks.

West Plains earned four wins during the Mansfield Tournament to improve to 5-5 on the year. On Saturday, the Lady Wolves beat Hereford 25-22, 25-21 and Coppell 25-17, 25-22. Piper Patterson was named to the All-Tournament team with 46 kills, 37 digs and six blocks.

Randall played at the Westwood tournament and went 5-4.

San Jacinto Christian Academy and Vega impress at Dimmitt Tournament 

The San Jacinto Christian Acadamy Lady Patriots couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year by going to the Dimmitt Tournament and walking out undefeated.

The Lady Patriots ran over the competition over Friday and Saturday with a perfect 6-0 mark.

On Friday, SJCA took down Dimmitt (25-17, 25-5), then Wildorado (25-16, 25-8) and River Road (25-15, 25-14).

On Saturday, the Lady Patriots winning ways continued by beating Highland Park (25-15, 25-13), getting a win over Amarillo PCHEA (25-18, 25-12) and finishing the tournament with a victory against West Texas High 25-14, 25-12.

Blayne Robinson had a great showing for the Lady Patriots with 49 assists and 13 aces. Teammate Alayna Daniels tallied 48 kills with Harlee Brabham showing her versatility with 47 assists, 42 digs and 23 kills.

The Vega Lady Longhorns also had a unbeaten record at the Dimmitt Tournament going 6-0.

On Friday, Vega (7-0 overall) swept Lubbock Christ The King (25-18, 25-19), Amarillo PCHEA (25-18, 25-19) and Wildorado (25-23, 25-20). On Saturday, the Lady Longhorns downed Post (25-13, 25-17), Dimmitt (25-9, 25-14), and River Road (25-14, 25-22).

Jaz Martinez was outstanding for Vega finishing the weekend with 45 kills, 40 digs and nine aces. Teammate Addi Bidegain added 39 digs with 26 kills and 12 aces with Tayson Schenk knocking down 23 kills and serving up 15 aces.

Highland Park (6-2 overall) went 4-2 in the Dimmitt Tournament with wins over Post, Christ The King, Amarillo PCHEA and Dimmitt.
