Here’s a look at the River Road Wildcats heading into the 2024 football season. Take a listen to head coach Bryan Welps in the video at the link above.

2023 resume

Head coach: Bryan Welps, 14th year at River Road, 44-101. 28th year overall, 94-167.
2023 Record: 1-9 overall, 0-4 in District 1-3A Division I.

Returning starters

Offense: 10
Defense: 10
Season opener: 7 p.m. vs. Sanford-Fritch, Friday, Aug. 30.

Players to watch

Alex Warren, 6-foot-1, 178-pound, QB, Sr.

Warren has become a leader and captain of the River Road Wildcats entering his third year under center. Last season, the South Paw did a superb job commanding the Wildcat run-heavy offense while throwing for 1,133 yards and seven TDs.

Sammy Delgado, 5-foot-11, 171-pound, RB, Sr.

Delgado was a big-time compliment to Warren making for a dangerous combination heading into the 2024 season. Delgado proved himself for head coach Bryan Welps last year rushing for over 1,000-yards.

Zanti Marrufo, 6-foot, 255-pound, OL-DL, Sr.

Anchoring the offensive line for a strong run game is Marrufo. Starting every game last season, Marrufo was a trustworthy lineman that could pave a way grading out at 80 percent.
