In an area round sweep of El Paso Riverside last week the junior lefty took the hill and showcased a dominant Game 1 performance. Bertrand worked a complete game shutout of Riverside scattering two hits without allowing a run while totaling nine strikeouts.

On the season, Bertrand has been a force for West Plains on the mound and at the plate. Bertrand is 4-0 through 42.1 innings boasting a microscopic 0.33 ERA registering 44 K’s. He’s also hitting .396 through 35 games with four home runs, nine doubles and 24 RBIs.

Head coach Colby Chandler: “Against Riverside Bryton threw strikes and trusted his team behind him. That’s what we’ve embraced all year is being there for one another. He is very good at staying in the zone and not making mistakes. Bryton has come a long way and he’s a special player. When I first saw him, I wasn’t sure if he’d be one of our pitchers, but we gave him a shot and he’s become one of our main guys on the mound. He is also really good in the field and so valuable at the plate.”

Bertrand: “We’re playing great baseball right now. This team is very unselfish and we’re all willing to do whatever it takes to win. It’s about trusting each other and everyone on this team does just that. My goal when I go out there is to just throw strikes and let my defense take care of the rest. I just want to bring the energy when I need to and continue this run.”
