Joshua Samarripa, Dumas, kicker, Fr.
The freshman kicker had a night he’ll never forget. Samarripa stepped up and delivered a 39-yard game-winning field goal as time expired that lifted the Demons to a thrilling 45-42 win over Canyon on Friday night. On top of his heroic effort, Samarripa was 6-for-6 on extra-points.
Haiden Thompson, Miami, QB, Sr.
The four-year Miami standout not only kept his Warriors unbeaten at 9-0 thanks to a 51-6 thumping of McLean on Friday, but Thompson also celebrated a special career milestone. Thompson torched the Tigers going 9-of-12 through the air for 172 yards with four touchdowns. He then sprinted for 131 yards for another three scores to combine for seven combined TDs and 303 yards. Thanks to that effort, Thompson has now gone over 10,000 combined yards for his career sitting at 10,181 total yards.
Cade and Carson Seaman, Friona, QB-RB
The twin brother combination showed a lot of motivation playing against their former team on Friday. During a key 40-27 district win at Spearman, the Seaman twins combined for 272 of Friona’s 356 rushing yards. Cade led the attack with 138 yards on the ground on 23 carries with three touchdowns. Carson followed with 134 yards on 22 carries with a rushing TD and threw for 53 yards.
Da’Reon Mathis, Childress, RB, Sr.
Not many running backs have been as hot as Mathis has been down the latter half of the season. Playing in front of the home fans for the final time at Fair Park Stadium, Mathis delivered in a 65-7 downing of Dimmitt. The talented senior ran all over Dimmitt carrying the ball 20 times for 271 yards and punched in an eye-popping six touchdowns.
Bushland offensive line
The unit made up of – Holt Humphry, left tackle; Jake White, left guard; Jace Fisk, center; Ty Morris, right guard, Charley Pitt, right tackle – paved the way for a Falcons offense that soared to a 48-14 win over Dalhart that clinched an outright District 2-3A Division I championship. Thanks to the effort of this dominating line, Bushland totaled 512 yards of offense against the Golden Wolves.
Lyric Smith, Clarendon, QB-DB, Sr.
Thanks to another amazing effort from Clarendon’s senior leader, the Broncos were able to put together a sixth straight win by blasting Shamrock 58-6. Smith did it all in this victory. On the offensive side, he was 7-of-15 passing for 223 yards with a pair of touchdowns, then used his tremendous speed to knife through Shamrock for 90 yards on only eight carries with two more scores. Defensively, Smith had two interceptions and was part of a defense that tied a Class 2A record with six total picks.
Julian Cervantes, Perryton, RB-WR, Sr.
Perryton’s Swiss Army Knife showed how dangerous he can be once again helping the Rangers to a clutch 41-14 district victory over Borger. On the perimeter, Cervantes was a complete mismatch rushing for 167 yards on 10 carries with four touchdowns and snagged seven catches for 169 yards for another score.
Tryston Sanchez, Randall, QB, Sr.
Sanchez called his own number from 16-yards out in overtime that pushed Randall to a dramatic 27-20 win over Hereford. The victory helped the Raiders clinch a share of the District 3-4A Division I title in the process. On top of his game-winning TD, Sanchez had a big night on the ground, rushing for 133 yards with two touchdowns and went 13-of-26 for 127 yards passing.
Ryder McElroy, Farwell, WR-LB, Jr.
Farwell made quick work of West Texas High on the road thanks to a 56-0 shutout. McElroy answered the call during that game thanks to a terrific outing. At wide out, McElroy made three catches for 148 yards with two touchdowns, one of those for 82-yards. On defense, the junior led the Steers with six tackles, two of which were for a loss.
Israel Licon, Stratford, RB-LB, Jr.
Licon continued his big season while helping Stratford stay undefeated during a 55-6 thumping of Highland Park. Licon was a menace to the Highland Park offense racking up 12 tackles, two sacks and blocked a punt on special teams. Licon added 86 yards on only five carries on offense rushing the ball with a pair of TDs.
