Tascosa goes unbeaten at Randall Tournament
It was a strong weekend for the Tascosa as the Lady Rebels put together an undefeated weekend going 4-0 at the Randall Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Tascosa (17-9 overall) opened play on Friday taking down Ponder, 25-15, 25-18, 24-26, 25-18, then beat Canyon 25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-16. On Saturday is where the Lady Rebels really left their mark. Tascosa opened with a sweep of Abilene Wylie 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 and followed that with a thrilling five-set victory over host school and defending UIL Class 4A state champion, Randall, 27-25, 20-25, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13.
Outside hitter Saphina Stanley was clutch over the four games leading the way by knocking down a total of 52 kills including 16 against Randall. Setter Meredith Sanning handed out 193 assists over the weekend and Kassidy Langeland played great defense hitting the floor for 91 digs.
Randall (22-3) did finish 3-1 in the the tournament by beating Abilene Wylie (25-13, 32-30, 25-21), Ponder (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) and rival Canyon (25-13, 25-14, 25-19) before falling to the Lady Rebels.
Brooke Henderson totaled 47 kills for the Lady Raiders. Kenna Miller added 60 digs.
Amarillo High has strong weekend at the Arlington Classic
Amarillo High carried its recent momentum into the Arlington Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Sandies went 3-1 at the tournament with wins over JJ Pearce (20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 20-25, 15-10), Creekview (25-7, 25-16, 25-22) and Burleson (19-25, 25-27, 25-10, 28-26, 15-1), before falling to Class 6A power Byron Nelson 13-25, 21-25, 20-25, who is led by former Amarillo High and Oklahoma standout, Brianne Barker.
Junior Bird Moffitt was named to the All-Tournament for her performance over the two days. Moffitt finished with 53 digs, four aces and a 2.33 passer rating. Teammate Sienna Cavalier tallied 64 kills with 42 digs and Blair Pennington totaled 149 assists with 12 aces.
Bushland takes third at Frenship Tournament
Bushland wasn’t able to defend its Frenship Tournament championship from a year but still came away with a third-place finish on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Falcons went 5-2 over the two days beating Lubbock Monterey (25-15, 25-16), Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (26-24, 25-19), Lubbock-Cooper (25-19, 20-25, 28-26), Abilene Cooper (25-6, 25-12), and Midland Legacy in the third place game (20-25, 25-17, 25-20).
Mackenzie Sims continues her fantastic season with 103 assists in the seven games with 36 kills and 31 digs. Abby Howell added 60 kills and Avery Ramos led the team with 146 digs.
West Plains wins Silver bracket at Frenship Tournament
The West Plains Lady Wolves continue to show great effort through the early portion of the schedule.
West Plains was able to battle at the Frenship Tournament and come away with the Silver bracket championship with a 6-2 record. The Lady Wolves (22-6) were able to nab victories over Lubbock Monterey (25-12, 25-5), Dumas (25-16, 25-19), Shallowater (25-13, 25-20), and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (25-18, 18-25, 25-17). West Plains also beat Lubbock Coronado twice including a 25-22, 25-17 win in the Silver bracket title game.
Piper Patterson led the way with 56 kills followed by Jayli Franklin with 36. Emerson Castillo showed her unselfish play with 81 assists and McCall Sims totaled 89 digs.
Palo Duro and Caprock have solid outings
Both Caprock and Palo Duro had really solid showings at their respective tournaments on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Longhorns (13-9) finished runner-up at the Pampa Tournament falling to Lubbock All Saints in the championship game on Saturday 23-25, 10-25. Before the loss, Caprock had earned wins two wins over Perryton, beat Burkburnett and took down Pampa.
Reese Dindinger was outstanding over the weekend with 39 kills and nine digs. Adrienne Madrid did her part with 74 digs and 14 aces.
Palo Duro placed third at the Lancaster Tournament getting wins over Wilmer Hutch (25-3, 25-9), Corsicana (15-25, 25-12, 25-19) and Waxahachie (25-18, 25-16).
Erin Mims and Aniyah Burley were both named to the All-Tournament team. Burley totaled 95 assists with 33 digs, while Mims totaled 48 digs with 38 kills.
