Bushland uses long ball to dismantle Roosevelt 

A 15-run first inning set the tone for the Bushland Lady Falcons during a 28-0 thumping of Lubbock Roosevelt in a Class 3A bi-district game at the Lady Bulldog Softball Park in Plainview on Thursday night.

Bushland beat up Roosevelt pitching in a big way blasting a total of seven home runs including five in the bottom of the first inning. Lady Falcon teammates Abby Howell and Brylee Adams highlighted the homer barrage by accomplishing an extremely rare feat. Howell and Adams hit back-to-back home runs three times in the game and twice in the first inning alone.

Howell added a double on top of her three long balls finishing the game 4-for-6 with an impressive nine RBIs. Adams followed going 3-for-4 with four RBIS while throwing a no-hitter over five innings with four strikeouts.

Bushland (26-7) takes the one-game series and advances to the area round.

River Road takes out Slaton

River Road had a tale of two games, however, still earned a two-game sweep of Slaton in the Class 3A bi-district round on Friday and Saturday in Plainview.

The Lady Wildcats (20-10) defeated Slaton by a run-rule 23-1 count on Friday, but then won a much closer battle, 5-4, on Saturday to earn the sweep.

During the game one blowout, Carolyn Koval dominated Slaton pitching going  5-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a homer, driving in seven RBIs. Teammate Ava Sharp added two RBIs on a 4-for-5 day.

In a more competitive game two, Sharp hit a solo home run to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth that put River Road up 5-4 and giving the Lady Wildcats the lead for good. Sharp finished the game 2-for-2 with two solo home runs.

Class 5A

Amarillo High survives Lubbock-Cooper

Amarillo High got all they could handle but were able to survive an upset-bid from Lubbock-Cooper by winning a pair of very tough games on Saturday.

The Lady Sandies (31-2) fell behind in the series after dropping game one 4-2 on Friday. On Saturday, AHS stepped up and beat the Lady Pirates 15-9 in game two, then won a hard fought game three, 7-6. With the game tied 5-5 in the fifth in a decisive game three, the Lady Sandies took a 6-5 lead on a Tatem Pendergraft solo shot. In the bottom of the sixth, AHS picked up a key insurance run on another solo homer this time by Bryce Budd. Pendergraft was amazing on Saturday going a combined 6-for-7 with four total homers totaling nine RBIs.

Class 4A

Randall takes two from Midland Greenwood

The Randall Lady Raiders are moving on after getting a two-game sweep of Midland Greenwood in the Class 4A bi-district round on Thursday and Friday. Randall took the opener at Greenwood on Thursday by a convincing 11-1 score followed by a much closer 3-2 victory at home on Friday to complete the sweep.

The Lady Raiders (25-11) advance to the area round to face El Paso Riverside.

Sophomore Sidney Soria and pitcher Berkley Browder were the MVP’s of the series sweep. Soria went 3-for-5 in game one with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. In game two, Soria hurt Greenwood pitching again with a two-run double. Browder was stellar in the circle in both outings throwing a combined 14 innings allowing only three earned runs racking up 13 strikeouts.

Canyon dominates Pecos 

It was smooth sailing for the Canyon as the Lady Eagles took down Pecos in the Class 4A bi-district round with a 7-4 win in game one before a 20-0 blowout in game two at the Lady Pirates Softball Complex at Lubbock-Cooper on Thursday and Friday.

It was hot bats in the series that led to the sweep for Canyon. Mikaila Gilliland was a combined 5-for-8 in the series with a total of four RBIs. Teammate Bayleigh Burks was 3-for-5 in both games with four RBIs, and Maison Guerra had three RBIs totaling 3-for-7 at the dish. Kylie Knowles did her job in the circle during the sweep throwing a total of 11 innings giving up four runs but rolling up 19 strikeouts.

Canyon (16-14) advances to the area round to play the Fabens-El Paso Austin winner.

Dumas dominates Andrews

Dumas showed off the bats by blasting Andrews in a two-game sweep, 6-1, in game one followed by a 14-3 victory in game two.

The Demonettes improve to 27-7 and will square off with San Elizario in the area round.

Aaliyah Chavez was a combined 5-for-8 in the series with two doubles and an RBI. Suzette Ramirez hit a grand slam in game two and Star Cortes picked up two wins in the circle by tallying eight total K’s.

Pampa rallies past Monahans 

After dropping game one 12-6, Pampa rallied back for a pair of huge wins and take the best-of-three series from Monahans on Friday and Saturday in Lockney.

The Lady Harvesters (20-7) dropped the first game on Friday night 12-6, before storming back in game two for an 8-6 victory highlighted by a Maecie Hawthorne grand slam in the top of the fifth inning. In game three, Pampa was able to ease past Monahans or a 9-0 win behind Kynleigh Kirby’s complete game nine strikeout outing.

Class 2A

West Texas High holds off Seymour in competitive series 

The West Texas High Lady Comanches are headed to the next round of the playoffs after getting past Seymour in two very close ball games in a Class 2A bi-district clash in Floydada on Thursday and Friday. WT High defeated Seymour 4-2 in game one, followed by a thrilling 8-7 walk-off win in game two to complete the sweep Friday.

The Lady Comanches (17-11) now heads to the area round for the first time in over four years to take on the Ralls-Tahoka winner next weekend.

In the game one victory, Mikayala Casey was 2-for-4 including a triple and an RBI. In game two, the Lady Comanches rallied back from an early 5-1 deficit by tying the contest, 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth. WT High made the comeback complete when Josslyn Gray reached on an error to first that plated Gentry Francis for the winning run. Emily Yelton was clutch in the win going 3-for-3 with a triple and driving in a run. In the circle, Ashlynn Glasgow gave a gutsy effort in both outings throwing 14 combined innings allowing six earned runs with 16 K’s.

Sanford-Fritch hammers Quanah 

Sanford-Fritch made quick work of Quanah by getting a 16-1 run-rule win in a one-game playoff in the Class 2A bi-district round on Friday at Palo Duro High School. ]

The Lady Eagles are now 23-7 overall and will face Floydada (25-5-1) in the area round at a time and place to be determined.

Sanford-Fritch hit four home runs in the victory led by Hallie White who hit two during a 4-for-4 performance totaling four RBIs. Teammate Bryleigh Carr chipped in with a 3-for-4 day with three runs driven in and Emily Wade threw five scoreless innings tallying seven strikeouts. In another Class 2A bi-district clash, Sunray blanked Memphis, 10-0.
