After the second game of the week with Caprock was pushed back to Saturday morning thanks to Friday’s high winds, the Sandies merely picked up where they left off against the Longhorns. They scored their second 10-run mercy rule win of the week, as they rolled over Caprock 13-3 at Sandie Field.
Amarillo High (11-10-2, 5-1) is alone in first place in the district a game ahead of both Plainview and Palo Duro. That’s in part because Palo Duro was open this past week.
The Sandies racked up 11 hits against Caprock (3-16-1, 1-5), whom they beat 11-0 on Tuesday. Connor Haelzle hit a home run and drove in three runs for AHS.
Noah Markert, Jaxsen Hall, Jeb Tucker and Will Flaming all drove in two runs for Amarillo High.
Starter Payne Williams went five innings and gave up only two hits and one earned run for the Sandies. Amarillo High will play Palo Duro twice next week with the district lead on the line.
Tascosa can’t get bats going against Plainview
Tascosa became the latest Amarillo ISD team to struggle at the plate against Plainview ace Isaac Garza, as the seventh-inning run by the Rebels wasn’t nearly enough in a 4-1 loss.
Eight days earlier, Garza and Plainview came to town and Garza threw a no-hitter, not allowing a ball to be hit out of the infield in a 5-0 win. Tascosa (9-13, 1-5) had better luck at the plate with a run in the seventh, but that was it.
Plainview (10-12-1, 4-2) took a 4-0 lead to support Garza. The loss ruined a highly respectable outing by Tascosa starter Will David, who took the loss.
District 4-4A
Pampa holds on to beat West Plains
Pampa took advantage of an early big inning to hold on and beat West Plains 5-2 and remain in a tie for second place in the district.
With the win, Pampa (9-10, 4-2) is tied with Canyon and Hereford for second place in the district. New school West Plains (13-8, 3-3) saw a three-game winning streak end and fell into fifth place in district.
Pampa took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. That was enough support for starter Tyler Reed, who threw a complete-game victory. Huston Skinner drove in two runs for the Harvesters.
The Wolves scored runs in the fourth and fifth to cut it to 3-2, but Pampa got some insurance with two in the fifth.
Randall crushes Borger
Randall continued to dominate district foes, as the Raiders took the early lead and had three pitchers combine for a no-hitter in a 22-0 five-inning run-rule win at Borger on Friday to maintain a two-game lead atop the district.
The Raiders (20-3, 6-0) scored three runs in the top of the first to take control and didn’t stop hitting, as they pounded out 20 hits against Borger (4-15, 0-6). Randall had three players with three hits as Kaden Juarez drove in four runs and Hagen Shedd drove in three. Blaine Brannon had four RBIs and Logan Tice drove in three.
That was more than enough support for pitchers Duncan Bowles, Carson Haffner and Shedd. Of the 15 outs they recorded against the Bulldogs, all but one came via strikeout. Only an error kept the Raiders from notching a perfect game.
Canyon blanks Dumas
The Raiders weren’t the only Canyon ISD team to have a stellar pitching performance Friday. Canyon’s Javin Cash and Jacob Burris combined to give up one hit apiece as Canyon beat Dumas 10-0 in a six-inning run-rule win on the road to stay in a tie for second.
Canyon (14-6, 4-2) scored three runs in the first inning for all the offense it would need. Cash threw the first four innings to pick up the win and Burris threw the final two innings for the Eagles.
Cutter Livermore was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for Canyon and Sam Johnson was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Hunter Anderson also had three hits.
Dumas fell to 5-15 and 2-4.

Bushland rolls over Friona
The Bushland Falcons continued to flex their muscles to open district play Saturday afternoon, as they stayed unbeaten through two games by routing Friona 13-0 in five innings.
Junior pitcher Cannon Melbon struck out nine and gave up only two hits for the win, as Bushland (15-3, 2-0) has given up only one run in two district games.
The Falcons also delivered at the plate. Jaxon Fetsch had two hits and drove in three runs and Breckan Adams had two hits and drove in two runs. Max Rodriguez also drove in two runs.
Friona is now 7-8 and 0-2.
