No. 9 Randall puts clamps on West Plains in historic CISD matchup

For the second time in their first two District 4-4A games, the brand new West Plains Wolves hosted a Canyon ISD school Tuesday evening.

Not only that, but a CISD school ranked in the top 10, and the results played to type.

No. 9 Randall took the early lead over West Plains and never let up, rolling to a 62-37 win in the first ever meeting between the two schools in a boys varsity team contest. The game came four days after the Wolves lost their district home opener to No. 8 Canyon, 47-35.

This one wasn’t nearly that competitive. Randall (12-6, 2-0 in district) took an 18-10 lead at the end of the third quarter and steadily extended it as the game progressed.

K.J. Thomas was steady for the Raiders, scoring 10 points in each half en route to a game-high 20 points. Randall’s Devin Baccas scored 13 points, including eight in the third quarter when the Raiders pulled away for good.

West Plains didn’t have a player in double figures and fell to 10-6 and 0-2.

Red-hot Jones leads No. 8 Canyon to rout of Borger

Canyon keeps producing with its big guys up front, but at home against Borger, Kemper Jones did his damage from the outside.

Jones, one of three Canyon starters standing at least 6-foot-6, hit 7-of-9 3-pointers and had a game-high 37 points to lead the No. 8 Eagles to a 77-44 rout of Borger and stay unbeaten in district play.

The Eagles (12-2, 2-0) have shown that they’re not one-dimensional offensively. That especially goes for Jones, who was unstoppable.

Canyon took a 22-9 lead in the first quarter and coasted the rest of the way. Chris Bryant added 13 for the Eagles. Borger fell to 7-11 and 2-0.

Hereford routs Dumas

No. 20 Hereford also lived up to its ranking, as the Whitefaces broke open a tight game with a big second quarter to roll to a 74-42 win over Dumas on the road.

Hereford (12-2, 2-0) clung to a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and was up 31-23 at halftime. But the Herd outscored Dumas (13-4, 0-2) 17-5 in the third quarter to put away the Demons.

Tyi Duque led Hereford with 16 points while Jadyn Fletcher scored 14 and Kenyon Loftis added 12. Evan Hernandez was the only Dumas scorer in double digits with 15 points.

Perryton stays unbeaten, takes down Pampa

Perryton stayed in the ranks of the district’s unbeatens, using a big second quarter to take the lead for good at Pampa and cruise to a 47-37 victory.

The Rangers (8-3, 2-0) trailed 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Pampa (9-7, 0-2), 20-7 in the second quarter and led 27-16 at halftime. Daxton Rigdon had a game-high 17 points for Perryton. Huston Skinner led Pampa with 14 points.

Randall beats rival West Plains 

Randall stayed atop the District 4-4A standings handling rival West Plains by a 56-38 final on Tuesday night.

Sadie Sanchez shot lights out during the matchup for Randall pouring in a game-high 29 points. Teammate Ashley Norman scored 11.

The Lady Raiders stay undefeated in district at 4-0 and are 12-7 overall. West Plains falls to 5-10, 2-2.

Canyon soars past Borger

Canyon closed out first quarter of District 4-4A action with a convincing victory at home over Borger 87-20 on Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 4-ranked Lady Eagles now hit the Christmas break at 14-2 overall and 4-0 in league action before resuming on Jan. 6. Borger falls to 9-4, 1-3.

Canyon had four players put up double figures as Ta’leeyah Glynn and Kinslee Millican each had 13 points. Teammate Kinley Cornelson added 12 and Jaylee Moss chipped in with 10.

Hereford takes down Dumas

Hereford was able to pull away down the stretch from Dumas to earn a 48-35 District 4-4A road win on Tuesday night.

The Lady Whitefaces and Demonettes had a close came for three quarters until Hereford took control in the fourth. Dumas led 19-17 at half, and the game was tied, 30-30, after three quarters. But in the final eight minutes the Demonettes went cold, and Hereford got hot outscoring Dumas 18-5 in the final frame.

Despite the loss, Kamryn Cox did score 17 points and hit 1,000 points for her career.

Pampa beats Perryton

Pampa has won its second straight district contest by downing Perryton at home 45-34.

The Lady Harvesters relied heavily on Berlin Bartlett who couldn’t be stopped going for a game-high 25 points. Camree Dyer added seven points for Pampa.

The Lady Harvesters head to the Christmas break at 2-2 in district and 10-7 overall. Perryton drops to 6-12, 0-4.
