The No. 3-ranked Lady Buffs remained perfect on the year by handling Arkansas-Fort Smith 79-69 at the First United Bank Center on Thursday.
Lauren Taylor led the way for the Lady Buffs as the junior went 5-of-10 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep and 4-of-6 from the free throw line for a game-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds. Hooker, Okla. graduate Hollie Stalder continued her hot start to the season as the freshman went 5-of-10 from the floor for 12 points while Karley Motschenbacher reached double-figures for the 11th straight game with 11 points and 11 boards for a double-double.
On Saturday, WT remained perfect on the year winning its eighth straight game beating Oklahoma Christian 66-51 at home.
Motschenbacher has now reached double-figures in a dozen straight contests as the sophomore guard shot 6-of-11 from the floor including 1-of-3 from behind the arc and 2-of-3 from the free throw line for a team-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Azia Himeur also finished in double-figures going 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-5 from deep for 11 points.
The Lady Buffs (8-0 overall, 2-0 LSC) continue LSC play at Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
West Texas A&M rolls to LSC victories
After an 0-2 start to the season the West Texas A&M Buffaloes have seemed to find their footing opening Lone Star Conference action with a pair of wins.
The Buffs used a big night on Thursday from senior guard Julius Brown, who racked up dropped 21 points to lead WT to an 83-77 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith at home.
Four players reached double figure scoring led by Brown’s 21 to go along with five steals, two assists, one steal. Brown went 6-for-12 from the field, 3-for-3 from the deep and 6-for-8 at the charity stripe. Teammate Damion Thornton scored 19 followed by Zach Toussaint’s 17 points and Ahamed Mohammed 14 points.
On Saturday, the Buffs kept the victories rolling by knocking off Oklahoma Christian in dominating fashion 106-81.
Junior guard Larry Wise dropped in a career-high 33 points finishing the game with an excellent shooting performance of 11-for-17 from the field, 2-for-4 from the deep and 8-of-9 at the charity stripe. Toussaint scored 17 followed Brown’s 16 points.
WT shot a season-high 53.3 percent from the field, going 29-for-34 at the free throw line with a season-high 13 3-pointers.
The Buffs (4-2 overall, 2-0 LSC) continue league play at Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
