Joaquin Segovia, Vega, QB, Sr.
Segovia and his offensive line did the work against Sunray on a damp, cold Friday night, that allowed the Longhorns to claim the outright District 1-2A Division II championship 47-39. Segovia didn’t use his arm in the win, however, did all of his damage on the ground chewing up 228 yards rushing on 21 carries with four touchdowns.
Kameron Brown, Palo Duro, RB, Sr.
The senior leader and team captain assured Palo Duro a spot in the playoffs rushing for 215 yards on 25 carries, adding four catches for 86 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the Dons 35-32 win over Plainview to nab the fourth and final playoff spot out of District 2-5A Division II.
Brady Thompson, Highland Park, QB, Jr.
The junior gunslinger was too much for Sanford-Fritch in a win or go home game as Thompson chunked the rock for 230 yards with two touchdowns on offense, and had an interception return for a score on defense that helped the Hornets beat the Eagles 28-13 and advance to the postseason.
Rowdy Barnes, Boys Ranch, LB, Sr.
Barnes made life miserable for Booker on Thursday night in a 12-7 Roughriders win that propelled Boys Ranch to its first playoff appearance since 2008. Barnes was all over the field racking up 22 tackles with five of those coming for a loss.
Tayden Barnes, Tascosa, RB, Sr.
Barnes took his opening carry 49 yards for a score that set the tone in Tascosa’s 35-14 victory against Lubbock Coronado giving the Rebels their first outright district title in 34 years. Barnes ended his stellar night toting the rock 15 times for 127 yards with two TDs.
Landyn Hack, Panhandle, QB, Sr.
When a big game is on the line fans know in Panhandle to put the ball in Hack’s hands. That happened once more as Hack racked up a combined 396 yards with five touchdowns during a 47-25 win over Farwell. Hack, a serious MVP candidate for 2022, went 14-of-21 for 269 yards with three touchdowns. On the ground, the senior rushed for 127 yards on 19 carries with two more scores.
Caden Peevey, Shamrock, RB, Sr.
Peevey had a massive evening against Memphis during a 55-20 blowout on both sides of the football. Offensively, Peevey couldn’t be stopped piling up 169 yards rushing while finding the endzone on five separate occasions. On the defensive side, Peevey racked up 17 total tackles, 10 of those solos.
Drake Rabe, Childress, QB, Soph.
The sophomore quarterback has made a huge difference for Childress since taking over for injured Scout Smith over the past few weeks. Rabe continues to grow and, in a hurry, heling the Bobcats to a No. 2-seed out of District 3-3A Division II during a 45-9 win over Friona going 14-of-30 for 338 yards with four touchdown tosses.
Daniel Herrera, Bovina, QB, Jr.
Herrera torched the Lockney defense in a 38-26 victory on Thursday going a very efficient 16-of-27 for 300 yards passing with three touchdowns. The junior also ran for another score. The Mustangs head to the playoffs as a No. 3-seed out of District 3-2A Division II.
Oliver Ortiz, Dumas, WR, Sr.
Ortiz made all three of his catches count in a 35-7 rout of Hereford on Friday. Two of the seniors three catches resulted in touchdowns, as he ended the night racking up 84 yards, going for 28 yards a reception.
