Randall knocks off Pampa
Randall erased an 11-point halftime deficit in a hurry with a dominating second half to stay hot in District 3-4A Division I by beating Pampa on the road, 45-35.
Randall has rebounded quickly from a tough 56-21 loss at Canadian two weeks ago. Since that defeat, the Raiders are red hot moving to 2-0 in district and 6-2 overall with wins over Dumas last week 17-13, and now getting a come-from-behind road win at Pampa (5-3, 1-1).
Pampa had control early up 14-3 after a 27-yard TD run by freshman Max Neff. After Randall cut the lead 14-10, the Harvesters scored back-to-back touchdowns on a wide receiver pass from Bryce Lynn to Jett Schumacher then a scoop and score from linebacker Austin Bruce to go up 28-10. Randall got a score before half to cut the lead 28-17 into intermission but it was the second half where the Raiders took full control and fast.
On the opening play of the third quarter Elijah Pena caused a Pampa fumble. That led to a Dylan touchdown and all of a sudden it was 28-24. On the ensuing possession facing a 3rd and 16, Nathan White found a streaking Mason Gilbert all alone for a 41-yard touchdown giving Randall its first lead at 31-28 midway through the third quarter. After the Harvesters answered to go up 35-31, Randall fired right back when Nathan Baker turned on his jets to get behind the Pampa defense and White hit him on the money for a 68-yard pitch and catch giving Randall a 38-35 advantage they wouldn’t relinquish. Gilbert had four catches for 54 yards with three touchdowns, all coming on third downs. Gilbert also had a pick on defense. Baker had four snags for 131 yards with a TD, and the Randall run game was solid with Riley Davis chewing up 120 yards followed by Ray’s 113 yards with two scores. Neff led Pampa with 149 yards rushing on 21 carries with a touchdown.
Canyon shuts out Hereford
Everything went as would have been predicted when unbeaten Canyon hosted winless Hereford at Happy State Bank Stadium, as the Eagles soared to a 32-0 victory to open district play successfully.
Opening district play after drawing the open date last week, Canyon (7-0, 1-0 in district) didn’t show any rust against Hereford (0-8, 0-1). The Eagles used an efficient ground attack to wear out the Whitefaces, as Sam Johnson led the way with 121 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
Three runners scored touchdowns for Canyon, as the Eagles piled up 285 yards rushing.
While the Herd has shown some progress defensively, it was the toughest night of the season offensively for Hereford. It was the first time Hereford was shut out this season.
District 2-4A Division II
Borger falls in shootout to Seminole
The Borger Bulldogs had a big offensive night to open district play at home, but Seminole had an even bigger one as Borger lost a wild one 48-32.
Borger (2-5, 0-1 in district) picked up 489 yards of offense and consistently move the ball all night. Kaeden Jennings threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns Keagan Lopez and Avery Adame ran for 179 yards on 23 carries.
The Bulldogs took a 25-21 lead in the third quarter on the first of two scoring passes from Jennings to Lopez. But Seminole (7-1, 2-0) took the lead for good late in the quarter, as Blake Flowers completed 27-of-38 passes for 434 yards and five touchdowns while also running for 120 yards and two scores on 15 carries.

District 2-5A Division I
Caprock edges Monterey to stay in hunt
By the margin of a missed extra point, the Caprock Longhorns got themselves in playoff position Friday night at Dick Bivins Stadium.
In a defensive struggle between two teams in desperate need of a victory to stay alive in the playoff picture, Caprock held on when Lubbock Monterey missed an extra point kick after a touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 14-13 victory. The Longhorns are now 5-3 and 2-2 in district play, tied with Abilene High for third place in 2-5A DI.
Jamel Acosta-Lewis carried a big load for Caprock, running for 150 yards and both Caprock touchdowns on 15 carries. Acosta-Lewis scored a touchdown in the second quarter and in the third quarter to give the Longhorns a 14-7 lead.
Playing defensive back, Acosta-Lewis also recovered a fumble. It was a big play for a strong defensive effort for Caprock, who held Monterey (0-7, 0-2) to 259 yards of offense.
Jayden Hibbler led the Plainsmen with 130 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.
District 2-5A Division II
Palo Duro gets rolled by Abilene Cooper
Palo Duro never got started at Abilene Cooper, as Cooper opened the game with 43 unanswered points to rout the Dons 50-14, as PD fell to .500 in district.
Cooper’s Chris Warren threw three touchdown passes and Daniel Bray ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Palo Duro (2-3, 1-1 in district) didn’t get on the board until Avery Randle hit Taurean Johsnon on a 31-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
PD’s Kameron Brown did pull off another big play in the fourth quarter when he returned a blocked field goal 74 yards for a touchdown. It was the second straight game Brown has returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown.
Cooper is now 3-4 and 1-1.
