Landyn Hack, Panhandle, QB, Sr.

Hack and Panhandle’s offensive line put on a display during the Panthers eye-opening 56-6 rout of Clarendon to open the year. After an 0-5 start to last season Hack ensured that wasn’t going to happen again. The senior dual-threat quarterback did just about everything passing for 215 yards, rushing for 94 yards with five combined touchdowns.

TJ Tillman, Tascosa, WR, So.

The talented sophomore made a name for himself in Tascosa’s 35-7 season opening win against Palo Duro on Thursday. Tillman showed his ability to catch the football hauling in a 52-yard touchdown pass. To open the second half Tillman showed off his electric speed setting a new Tascosa school-record with a 98-yard kickoff return for a score.

Lleyton Brown, Caprock, QB, Jr.

Brown helped Caprock not only avenge a loss to Hereford in the season opener last year, but showed how much strides the Longhorns have come since 2021. During Caprock’s 54-7 win over the Whitefaces the junior gunslinger was able to pick a part the Hereford secondary going 15-of-18 for 264 yards with a pair of touchdown tosses.

Isaias Dominguez, Perryton, RB-LB, Sr.

Dominguez and the Perryton Rangers put on one of the more impressive performances during Week 1. The senior two-way standout chewed up Dalhart’s defense going for 201 yards on the ground on only 17 carries with three scores. He also added a receiving TD. Defensively, the senior had one of the Rangers four interceptions.

Rowdy Barnes, Boys Ranch, RB-LB, Sr.

The Boys Ranch Roughriders picked up their first season opening win since the 2015 season by downing Ropes 22-12. Barnes did everything he could to make that victory happen rushing for 156 yards with a score and making nine tackles on defense.

Preston Miller, Canadian, WR, Jr.

Miller showed off his skills during Canadian’s dominating 49-14 win over Seminole, Okla. Miller pulled down a career-high nine catches for 122 yards with a touchdown.

Zane Burr, Stratford, RB-LB, Sr.

Burr and the Elks picked up right where they left off last season with a 42-13 win over Spearman. Stratford mashed the Lynx tallying 374 rushing yards led by Burr who had 155 yards on 14 carries and made 10 tackles on the defensive side, three of which were for a loss.

Armando Lujan, Sunray, QB, Soph.

Expect to see Lujan’s name on this list or any recap a lot in 2022. Lujan showed no signs of a sophomore slump helping lead the Bobcats to a 32-29 win at Hooker, Okla. The gunslinger was an efficient 22-of-30 through the air for 248 yards and four touchdown passes.

Hunter Atwood, White Deer, RB, Soph.

White Deer has been a talk of discussion since knocking off No. 10 Groom from Class 1A Division II, 38-36, on Friday night. Atwood is also getting praise for his performance leading the Bucks by toting the rock 14 times for 214 yards with three TDs.

Sam Johnson, Canyon, RB,

Johnson was a key cog of the Canyon Eagles soaring to a 42-6 win over Clovis, N.M., on Friday night. The junior found the endzone on three separate occasions rushing for a total of 86 yards.
