Region I-5A
The Randall Raiders golf team has punched a ticket back to the UIL Class 5A State Golf Tournament for a second straight year.
The Raiders finished second overall as a team shooting a two-day total of 330-316— 646, at the Region I-5A Tournament on The Rawls Course in Lubbock on Monday and Tuesday.
Randall sat in third after Monday’s 330, however, made up 16 strokes in Tuesday’s final round to pass third place Aledo (328-323— 651).
“Getting back to state in back-to-back years is an incredible accomplishment,” Randall golf coach Ben Gilliland said. “This young team really made a huge turnaround early in February and pushed themselves to win a couple tournaments, including a district championship. I am so proud of their hard work, and we can’t wait to go back to state.”
Lubbock-Cooper Black was the regional team champion posting a 319-309— 628.
Lubbock Coronado’s Preston DeFriend was the individual regional champion firing rounds of 73-75— 148.
Junior Wyatt Provence led the way for the Raiders shooting a 76-79— 155. Provence was followed by teammates — Owen Reynolds 83-77— 160; Jacob Montano 86-79— 165; Evan Reynolds 85-81— 166; Jack Lankford 88-87— 175.
Tascosa finished tied for seventh as a team.
The UIL Class 5A Boys State Tournament is set for May 9-10 at the White Wings Golf Club in Georgetown.

Region I-3A
The Bushland boys golf team will play at the UIL State Tournament for the first time in school history.
Sitting in fifth after Monday’s first round with a 345, the Falcons rallied back on Tuesday to shoot a 330, ending with a two-day total of 675 for a second place team finish during the Region I-3A Tournament at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird.
Head coach Kendall Cogburn, who will take over as the new West Plains boys basketball coach after the golf season, was thrilled for his team after their historic accomplishment.
“I’m proud of the mental toughness to battle back on day two,” Cogburn said. “When we were sitting in fifth place as a team on day 1, I was a little disappointed because I knew we were better than that. We were in a similar position last year, but didn’t get it done. Everyone stepped up this time around and played resilient golf.”
Haydon Branscrum had a strong day helping Bushland make its first appearance at state. Branscrum carded a low score of 74 on Tuesday after an 84 on Monday for a team-low 158. Branscrum was followed by — Christian Brice 76-91— 167; Jase Boyd 94-83— 177; Rhett Morgan 92-86— 178; Pierce Hill 93-87— 180.
Canadian’s Ben Bryant is also state bound. Bryant earned one of the individual spots finishing eighth overall with a 82-78— 160.
Brock’s Gold team (318-310— 628). Brock’s Kutter Wilson (76-74— 150) was the individual regional champion.
The UIL Class 3A Boys State Tournament is set for May 9-10 at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.

Region I-2A
Vega will make its unprecedented sixth straight trip to the UIL Class 2A State Tournament.
The Longhorns dominated to win the Region I-2A Tournament at the Palo Duro Creek Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Vega fired rounds of 346-347— 693 to beat second place New Home (360-386— 746) by 53 strokes.
New Home’s Owen Morris (77-73— 150) was the individual regional champion.
Vega’s Kylan Richardson finished third overall posting rounds of 82-77— 159. Teammate Ryan Grawunder (79-86— 165) was eighth.
Wellington’s Caleb Weinette (81-79— 160) placed fourth overall to qualify to state as an individual. Farwell’s Hayden McClaran (83-79— 162) is also headed to state as an individual with a fifth place finish.
The UIL Class 2A Boys State Tournament is set for May 9-10 at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Region I-1A
Texas Panhandle boys and girls teams highlighted the Region I-1A Tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
The Miami and Happy boys finished first and second overall, while the Fort Elliott and Happy girls placed second and third.
The Miami boys won the regional team championship scoring a two-day total of 357-359— 716 at the Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock.
Traser Shelton of Miami was the individual regional champion with carding rounds of 84-77— 161. The Happy boys also advanced placing second with a 377-393— 770. Happy’s TS Bow had the low rounds of 83-86— 169, finishing fourth overall.
The Fort Elliott girls (405-402— 807) qualified for state finishing second behind regional champion Garden City (392-385— 777). Happy was third and also advanced to state firing a 425-396— 821. Happy’s Halee Jo Johnson (88-86— 177) won the individual regional championship. Fort Elliott’s Molly Meek (90-91— 181) tied for second.
Booker’s Chloe Carson punched her ticket to state as an individual shooting 87-94— 181.
The UIL Class 1A Boys State Tournament is set for May 9-10 at the Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
The UIL Class 1A Girls State Tournament is set for May 16-17 at the Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.
