A Kenah Cox three-run home run in the top of the fifth broke a tie ball game that helped soar the Canyon Lady Eagles past Pampa 6-2 during a District 4-4A showdown on Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Harvesters Softball Complex.
With the victory, Canyon (17-9 overall) takes over sole possession of first place in the district by staying undefeated at 5-0. Pampa (19-5-1) suffers its first loss in the league dropping to 4-1.
The Lady Harvesters had battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the fourth on a Carsyn Hunt sac fly that scored Cassidy Stanhope. But in the top of the fifth the Lady Eagles answered. Mikaila Gilliland led off with a single, Maison Guerra reached on an error setting up Cox for the three-run blast to left field off Pampa’s Kynleigh Kirby for the lead Canyon never relinquished. Gilliland was 2-for-4 on the day. The Lady Eagles also used a strong outing from starter Kylie Knowles in the circle. Knowles worked through control problems early to toss a complete game, allowing one earned run, while racking up 10 strikeouts.
Borger exploded for two big innings to down Dumas 20-8 on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 9-7 overall and 2-3 in District 4-4A. The Demonettes drop to 20-9, 2-3.
Borger plated five runs in the first and another five runs in the third that was the difference.
Emilee Bridges was stellar at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs going 3-for-5 with two homers and five RBIs. Teammate Brooklyn Castanetta went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.
Hereford has now made it two wins in a row holding off Perryton 7-5 at home Tuesday.
Hereford had critical errors in the contest, but starter Izzy Enriquez closed out the complete game despite five unearned runs being scored. Enriquez finished with 10 K’s, and was 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Hereford is now 2-3 in district and 10-15-1 overall. Perryton falls to 2-18, 0-5.
District 3-5A
Randall took over sole possession of second place in District 3-5A blanking Caprock on the road 10-0 on Monday afternoon.
Lady Raiders pitcher Heaven Moreno had a dominant outing in the circle handcuffing a dangerous Lady Longhorns lineup. Moreno tossed all five innings of the run-rule victory without allowing a run, scattering three hits, and totaling three strikeouts.
Moreno was backed herself up at the plate going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Desiree Hernandez also provided the pop with a grand slam in the top of the first inning.
Randall is now 4-1 in league play and 16-10-1 overall. Caprock falls to 13-14, 3-2.
Amarillo High stayed unbeaten in district at the halfway point with a run-rule shutout of rival Tascosa 10-0 at home. The Lady Sandies stay all alone in first place at 5-0 while improving to 17-11-1 overall. Bethany Noble worked five scoreless innings allowing only two hits, and running up 10 strikeouts for AHS. Noble was also 3-for-3 at the dish with an RBI. Tascosa falls to 11-15, 1-4.
In the other 3-5A contest on Monday, Plainview run-ruled Palo Duro 29-0.
