Amarillo High survives Randall upset bid
The No. 4-ranked Amarillo High survived a huge scare at Randall in a Battle of Bell Street showdown at Randall on Tuesday night.
The Sandies trailed by 11 points at half, and by eight by the end of the third quarter, only to rally in the final quarter to pull off a 57-49 come-from-behind win.
AHS trailed 45-37 after three, but started chipping away in the fourth. With 1:40 remaining the Sandies took the lead for good when Xa Landry Britton knocked down a clutch 3-pointer from the right wing. Villanova signee, Brendan Hausen, scored a team-high 17 points in the rally. Center Cade Hornecker added 12. Despite the loss, KJ Thomas scored 24 points in a tremendous effort.
Naz-Wildorado go 3 OT
In a game that decided sole possession of second place in District 3-1A, No. 12 Nazareth and No. 7 Wildorado didn’t disappoint.
It took three overtimes, but Nazareth came away thrilling 62-59 win at Wildorado when senior, Trent Gerber, hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds left on the clock.
Wildorado had one last shot, but it didn’t go down as the Swifts escaped this epic battle.
Freshman Kayle Rogers led Nazareth with 20
These two teams will meet up once more on Feb. 11, in Nazareth.
Tuesday’s top performers
Cole Purcell had a night to remember for the Bushland Falcons. Purcell lit up Highland Park for 36 points, scoring as many points as the Hornets combined in a 91-36 blowout victory.
Canyon’s Kemper Jones continued his fantastic season scoring a game-high 20 points as the Eagles stayed perfect in district by downing Borger, 62-49.
Audi Luckey has been on fire for Palo Duro and that trend stayed that way with 28 points during the Dons 90-72 win at rival Caprock.
