District 3-5A is underway

District 3-5A opened with some exciting action Friday night. Palo Duro held off Randall, 84-81, thanks to Nkundimama Nice, Audi Luckey, and Paetyn Walker combining for 53 points. KJ Thomas led Randall with 26.

Amarillo High and Tascosa both cruised in its respective openers. The No. 4-ranked Sandies got a combined 36 points from Villanova signee, Brendan Hausen, and UT Arlington signee, Damonze Woods, to best Plainview, 49-36. The Rebels used a 27 point night from Khalil Jackson, the son of Tascosa coach Steven Jackson, to can Caprock, 70-50.

District 4-4A should be good

Canyon established its dominance to open district play rolling over Dumas 63-41, however, the other two games showed fans what parity the district brings. Borger and Perryton each won thrillers to open league play Friday. Borger edged Hereford, 48-47, while Perryton erased a double-digit third quarter deficit to stun Pampa, 38-36. This could be a sign of things to come in the next few weeks.

Friday’s top performers

Jack Pipkin poured in 28 to lead Spearman over Highland Park 79-18.

Panhandle’s Landyn Hack racked up 27 points to help the Panthers to a 54-39 win at Memphis.

Gruver’s Colton Millsap continues his steady play going for 21 points as the Greyhounds knocked off Sunray, 58-40.
