The Amarillo High boys and Randall girls team each dominated to claim district championships at the District 3-5A cross country meet ran at Rick Klein Park on Thursday morning.
The Sandies punched their ticket to the regional meet scoring 26 points, which was 25 points better than second place Tascosa’s 51. Randall came in third to also qualify for regional, as the top three teams and top 10 individuals from district advance on.
AHS standout Isaac McGill claimed the individual title running a 5K time of 15:14.17. Teammate Miles Cox took silver with a 15:33.35. The Sandies had a total of five runners place in the top 10.
Randall scored an impressive 18 points to win the girls district crown. Amarillo High finished second with 43 points, and Caprock (106 pts) came in third.
Cameron McConnell, who committed verbally to run at Oklahoma State University on Thursday night, continued her stellar season for the Lady Raiders pacing the field with an eye-opening 5K time of 17:16.23. Randall placed seven in the top 10. Ariyah Gomez earned silver running an 18:38.20.
The Region I-5A meet will take place on Monday, Oct. 25, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

District 4-4A
Canyon made it a clean sweep as the girls and boys teams won the District 4-4A cross country championship Friday morning at Canyon High School.
Alexander Niemiec led an impressive performance by the Eagles. Niemiec was the individual district winner surging to a 15:53.04. Right behind Niemiec was teammate Anthony Stuart in second place clocking a 16:00.82. In total, Canyon scored 20 points, and had seven runners earn top 10 spots. Dumas placed second with 48 points, while Perryton (88 pts) was third.
The storied Lady Eagles program did what they were expected to do. Canyon’s 27 points did in Dumas, which took second place with 61. Hereford came in third with 70.
Junior standout Abree Winfrey ran an extremely strong 2-mile for a time of 11:07.94, holding off teammate Avery Brown (11:11.49) for the individual district championship. Winfrey, who placed third at last year’s state meet, will make her third straight appearance at regionals.
Canyon totaled five runners in the top 10.
The Region I-4A is set for Monday, Oct. 25, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

District 1-3A
Both the Dalhart boys and Canadian girls had to fight its way to district titles during the District 1-3A cross country meet at the Palo Duro Lake Park in Spearman Wednesday.
The Lady Wildcats fended off Bushland by one-point to claim the district championship.
Canadian tallied 49 points edging Bushland, which tallied 50 points. Dalhart was third with 59 points, and Spearman placed fourth also with 59 points.
Lady Cats won the meet behind the stellar running of their freshman competitors.
Freshman Konnar McClendon won the individual district championship thanks to a dominating 2-mile time of 12:42.56, followed by fellow freshman Arionna Black, who came in second overall clocking a 13:24.07. Freshman Payton Lee also placed in the Top 10 finishing ninth with a 14:15.81.
On the boys side, the Golden Wolves tallied 33 points, which was 17 better than Bushland’s 50 to win the district title. River Road came in third with 52 points.
Dalhart’s Alfred Rodriguez, Dante Delgado and Jaron Schriber finished third, fourth, and sixth place respectively. Rodriguez took the bronze individually running a time of 18:11.33.
River Road oustanding long distance runner Crawford Kiser brought home gold as the District 1-3A individual champion. The senior was his stellar self Wednesday pacing the course in 16:23.65.
The Region I-3A meet will take place on Monday, Oct. 25, at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
