Randall broke open a tight game on the road against Wichita Falls High in the district opener, as quarterback Braxton Burd took over in the second half by running for three touchdowns to account for 21 unanswered points in a 31-14 victory.
The game was tied 7-7 at halftime when Randall (4-2, 1-0 in district) took the lead for good late in the third quarter behind Burd, who’s emerged as a threat both passing and running this season. Burd ran 2 yards for a score to give the Raiders a 14-7 lead with 1:07 left in the third quarter, then on the first play of the fourth quarter ran 29 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-7.
The Burd watch continued when he capped his evening with a 61-yard scoring run to make it 28-7. It capped a night where Burd rushed for 193 yards on 17 carries.
For good measure, Burd got the Raiders on the board with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kolby Marting in the first quarter.

Caprock nabs big win at Monterey
Caprock got into the playoff conversation Thursday night at PlainsCapital Park at Lowrey Field, as the Longhorns shut down Lubbock Monterey 28-7 and rolled to their first District 2-5A Division I win of the season.
With the game tied 7-7 in the second quarter, Caprock (2-4, 1-1 in district) took over through timely offense and stiff defense.
The Longhorns scored 21 unanswered points between the second and third quarter to seal it.
Jamel Acosta-Lewis scored on a 24-yard run and Damon Carrasco scored on the first of two 1-yard runs to give the Longhorns a 21-7 halftime lead.
Carrasco ran for 134 yards on 35 carries, but defense was Caprock’s strength on the night, as the Longhorns held Monterey (3-4, 1-2) to 145 yards of total offense. Trent White did run for 110 yards for the Plainsmen.

Borger gets on top early, beats Levelland
Borger got off to a quick start in district play, taking the lead in the first quarter and never letting up to beat Levelland 31-17 at home.
The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-0 in district) got on the board when Jakob Lovato returned an interception for a touchdown. They extended the lead to 14-0 on a 2-yard scoring pass from Tray Toliver to Gabriel Campoya.
Toliver ran for two touchdowns to lead Borger offensively. Defensively the Bulldogs were stout, giving up 254 yards as Cade Clements had 12 tackles and Logan Gray had 10.
It won’t get any easier for the Bulldogs next week, as they go on the road for a key district game against Lubbock Estacado.

Canyon holds on to beat Andrews
Canyon jumped out to a big lead with a huge second quarter but needed a stop on a two-point conversion attempt to beat Andrews 28-26 at Happy State Bank Stadium.
The Eagles (6-1) took a 22-0 lead in the third quarter, thanks in large part to two touchdown runs by Dario Bressler, who ran for 194 yards on 20 carries. However, Andrews cut the lead to 22-20 by the third quarter.
The Eagles went up 28-20 on a 56-yard scoring pass from Derek Clements to Christian McGuire, their second scoring connection of the evening. With 1:11 left in the game, Brock Tijerina scored on a 1-yard run for Andrews, but on the two-point conversion attempt, Sam Johnson tackled E.J. Lopez at the 1-yard line to seal the win.
Clements threw for 223 yards and Parker Cunningham had eight catches for 111 yards.

Dumas routs Roswell
Dumas dominated in every fashion imaginable and was never seriously threatened in marching to a 53-0 victory at home over Roswell, N.M. to move back above .500 for the season.
The Demons (3-2) jumped to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and expanded it to 39-0 by halftime, making the outcome a formality. James Bednorz led the offense, running for three touchdowns in the first half en route to rushing for a game-high 166 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries.
Dumas outgained Roswell by a 417-122 margin, giving up only seven first downs. Zyrell Murga ran for two touchdowns for the Demons.

Hereford rolls past Lake View
Hereford made its longest road trip of the year worth it, as the Whitefaces broke away from San Angelo Lake View with two big scoring passes in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 35-20 victory.
The Herd (5-2) never trailed and went up 21-6 late in the fourth quarter on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Gerardo Garcia to Noah Brown, the first of three Garcia scoring passes in the second half. In the fourth quarter, Garcia hit Brown on a 68-yard scoring bomb and Braedyn Mendoza on a 21-yarder to make it 35-12 and put away the game.
Garcia threw for 238 yards and also ran for a touchdown. Brown had four catches for 177 yards.

Pampa routs Big Spring
Pampa takes plenty of momentum into the open week prior to opening 3-4A D-I play, as the Harvesters kept up their offensive blitz during Homecoming, jumping on top early to destroy Big Spring 51-7.
As has become their custom, the Harvesters (6-1) used a balanced attack to roll over Big Spring. Sam Anguiano completed 12-of-21 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns and Jesse Alvidrez caught two scoring passes. Cornelius Landers had his typical big game, running for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.
Pampa has now won six straight under first-year coach Cody Robinson after dropping the season opener.
