Amarillo High Lady Sandies Black team played steady golf while fighting off cold, windy temperatures to capture the Region I-5A championship at the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock Monday and Tuesday.
Amarillo High shot rounds of 306 Monday, followed by a 320 on Tuesday to beat Aledo (310-331— 641) to claim the team title.
Senior and West Texas A&M signee Alexis Escobedo continued her terrific season earning a bronze individual medal firing a 36-hole total of 73-72— 145 that paced the Lady Sandies to the regional championship.
Amarillo High Black punches a ticket to the University Interscholastic League Class 5A state tournament set for May 10-11 at the White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
Escobedo was supported by a cast of teammates over the two rounds. Karlee Holcomb shot 76-82 for a total of 156, Lauren Medrano posted a two-day score of 80-80— 160, Avery Britten shot 77-88— 165, and Charlee Thacker rounded AHS out with rounds of 80-86— 166.
The Amarillo High Gold team placed in the top 10 thanks to scores of 366-376— 742.
Malison Chanthapanya of Saginaw won the individual regional title firing low rounds of 73-69— 142. Former Randall golfer and Justin Northwest senior Jacee Fields (69-74— 143) came in second place individually.

Region I-3A Boys
Cayden Beckner of Dalhart highlighted the Region I-3A boys golf tournament at the Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird on Monday and Tuesday.
Beckner posted fired a 78 Tuesday, then shot an 84 Thursday to post a 36-hole total 162 to punch a ticket to the UIL Class 3A state tournament as an individual medalist.
Dalhart (399-362— 711) finished sixth as a team followed by Bushland (344-370— 714) in seventh.
Brock’s Blue team was the regional champion shooting rounds of 319-334— 653.
Lain Tushinsky of Jim Ned and Bowie’s Parker Price went to a playoff after posting a two-round score of 152. Tushinsky claimed the individual title in a playoff.
The Class 3A state tournament is set for May 17-18 at the ShadowGlen Golf Club in Manor.

Region I-2A Girls
Texas Panhandle teams and individuals made their mark at the Region I-2A Golf Tournament at the Palo Duro Creek Golf Course in Canyon on Monday and Tuesday.
The Memphis Lady Cyclones kept up their proud tradition winning the regional champion with a two-round total of 419-405— 824. Memphis trailed Wink by six strokes after Monday’s first round, but rallied back for a 24 stroke win as Wink finished second with a 413-433— 846.
The Lady Cyclones placed three players in the top 10 led by Chloe Wilks. Wilks posted a 36-hole score of 101-95— 196 to earn third place as an individual. Teammates Maggie Cook (107-97— 214) was sixth and Kiyonna Matthews (103-104— 207) came in eighth.
Stratford is also headed to state placing third with a team rounds of 430-418— 848. Payton Berry was the standout for the Lady Elks winning the individual regional championship. Berry fired an 85 on Monday, and followed that with an 83 Tuesday for a 168.
Taryn Audrain of Sanford-Fritch advances to state coming in second place individually thanks to scores of 91-83— 174. Also qualifying for state as an individual was Wellington’s Kenna Darrow (106-95— 201), who placed fifth.
The UIL Class 2A state tournament is set for May 10-11 at the The Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

Region I-1A Boys and Girls
The Happy girls played two superb rounds to earn a second place finish and earn a trip to the UIL Class 1A state tournament.
The Cowgirls shot a two-day total of 401-413— 814 at the Reese Golf Center in Lubbock to come in second behind regional champion Garden City (391-418— 413) at the Region I-1A tournament Monday and Tuesday.
Halee Jo Johnson shined for Happy winning a gold medal as the individual regional champion thanks to shooting rounds of 87-93— 180.
Teammate Aimee McCarley also finished in the top 10 with scores of 100-98— 198.
The Fort Elliott girls are joining Happy at the state meet. The Lady Cougars placed third in the team standings with a 413-427—840.
Booker’s Chloe Carson was the lone Texas Panhandle representative to qualify for state as an individual. Carson (99-94— 193) finished fourth overall.
The UIL Class 1A girls state tournament is set for May 10-11 at the Lighthouse Country Club in Kingsland.

The Fort Elliott boys followed with a second place finish to advance to the Class 1A state tournament.
The Cougars shot a two-day score of 393-400 at the LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock to finish by behind Region I-1A champion Garden City (399-373— 772).
Fort Elliott senior Gatlin Goad earned a gold medal by winning the individual championship. Goad fired excellent rounds of 74 Monday and 76 on Tuesday for a total of 150.
Miami’s Traser Shelton (89-93— 192) made it to state as well as an individual by placing sixth.
The UIL Class 1A boys state tournament is set for May 17-18 at the The Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
