LSC week 7 review: Lions and Texans win big; Buffs survive at UTPB

Tarleton upends Lions, extends multiple streaks

The No. 4 Tarleton Texans extended the nation’s longest home winning streak with a 35-21 Home oning win against No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce in front of a record crowd of 11,513 fans at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

First off, Tarleton stays perfect on the year at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference.

Texans have now won 12 straight home games, which is the longest streak in the nation. Tarleton extends its regular season win streak to 17 in a row, and has now won 12 straight LSC games dating back to last year.

Tarleton jumped out to a 14-0 lead against the Lions, making that lead standup the remainder of the game.

TAMC drops to 5-2, 3-1.

Angelo State survives in Canyon

West Texas A&M missed two field goals in the final 5:36, as the No. 25 Rams were able to escape with a thrilling 17-14 win over the Buffs in Canyon on Saturday.

The Rams are 6-1 in overall, matching last years win total.. ASU also stays in second place in the league standings at 4-1.

ASU’s defense limited the Buffs to 42 yards in the first half. In the second half, the ASU did bend but never broke to hang for the victory.

The Rams trailed for all of 36 seconds in the game. The eventual game-winning score at the 5:36 mark of the third quarter when Payne Sullins hit Austin Landry on a 67-yard touchdown.

The Buffs drop 5-2, 2-2.

Mustangs double up Javelinas in high scoring affair

Mjdwwsfern State lit up the scoreboard, doubling up Texas A&M-Kingsville 70-35 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

The Mustangs scored early and often putting up a season-high 606 yards of offense.

The win snaps a three-game losing steak for MSU-Texas as they improve to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the LSC.

The Javelinas woes continue in 2019. TAMK has now dropped five straight, falling to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Explosive second half lifts Greyhounds past Mustangs

Eastern New Mexico scored 31 points in the second half to roll over Western New Mexico, 48–17, in Silver City, N.M. on Saturday.

ENMU led 17-10 at half, but opened the contest up in the second half with its dominating run game, outscoring WNM 31-7 in the final two quarters.

The Greyhounds (5-2, 3-2) wore down the Mustangs by racking up an astounding 576 rushing yards in the victory.

WNM is now 1-6, 1-3.

Chadron State in first half to soar past UTPB

The Chadron State Eagles put up the first 27 points of the game and made it standup, taking down UT Permian Basin, 43-21, in a nonconference matchup on Satuday in Chadron, Neb.

The Falcons have been in a tail spin of late, dropping their last four games, as they fall to 2-5 overall.

The Eagles, from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, improve to 4-3.

UTPB did close the gap, 27-21, with 3:16 left in the third quarter on a quarterback Kameron Mathis 1-yard run. That’s as close as the Falcons came to cutting the deficit.

Elijah Myles led the Eagles on the ground rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown.

UTPB QB and Bushland graduate Kameron Mathis threw for 256 yards with two scores and ran for another TD.

Triston Williams, MSU-Texas, So. QB

What a night it was for the Mustangs gunslinger. Williams, a sophomore, passed for career-high 354 yards and matched a school-record with six touchdown passes.

Prince Robinson, Tarleton, Sr. DB

The decorated cornerback had an outstanding game in the secondary against the Lions. Besides playing strong pass defense, Robinson made eight tackles, seven of which were solo tackles.

Josh Quinton, Angelo State, Jr. LB

The junior was a part of a huge defensive effort for the Rams in a hard fought win against WT. Quinton racked up a team-high 12 tackles, with three solo tackles.

Paul Terry, E. New Mexico, Sr. RB

The league’s leading rushing tallied 180 yards rushing with a pair of touchdowns against WNM. With his performance, Terry cracks the 1,000 yard mark on the year, rushing for 1,167 yards this season.
