Big school roundup: Palo Duro claims district win; Canyon, Dumas stay unbeaten

Through pouring rain and lightning delays, but were able to stay focused enough district win of the year, 26-17, against Lubbock High on Friday night at Dick Bivins Stadium.

The Dons earned a very important to keep any hope at a playoff spot alive. Palo Duro moves back to .500 at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in District 2-5A Division I.

LHS (1-5, 0-2) led 14-13 at the half but the Dons defense clamped down holding the Westerners to only a field goal in the second half.

Before a lengthy lightning delay late in the third quarter, Palo Duro was able to take over the lead for good De’Zhaun Gilbreath 17 yard touchdown snag from Dondray DeGrate.

Following the delay, the Dons defense sealed the victory on a 9-yard fumble return by Zeke Mitchell.

Anthony Randle ran for 140 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown for the Dons. DeGrate was 6 of 10 passing for 64 yards with a two touchdown passes. The senior also ran for 44 yards and a score.

Canyon blows out Big Spring

Canyon kept its perfect record blowing out Big Spring 62-0 on Homecoming Friday night on Happy State Bank Field at Kimbrough Stadium.

This contest was never close as the Eagles put the game away with a 27-point first quarter.

Quarterback Jay Defoor picked apart the Golden Torres secondary going 9 of 12 for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Brandon Driskell hauled in four of those passes for 54 yards and a score while running back Aiden Hildinger rushed for 92 yards on 11 carries and a TD. Brody Cook added a pair of touchdowns on 78 yards rushing.

Canyon is 6-0 overall. Lamesa falls to 0-6.

Dumas blanks Borger, remains ubeaten

The Dumas Demonss led from start to finish in a lightning shortened 28-0 shutout Friday night at home against Borger.

The game was eventually called due to weather in the third quarter.

Head coach Aaron Dunnam and his No. 7-ranked Demons remain undefeated on the year at 6-0.

For the third time this season, the Dumas defense held its ground, earning a third shutout.

The Demons limited Borger to seven total yards and three first downs through the three quarters.

Offensively, Dumas quarterback Spencer Williams led the charge as he dominated the stat board. Williams racked up 243 yards and a touchdown through the air, while using his legs for three touchdowns and 35 rushing yards.

Dumas receiver Kyle Stroebel had a career-night as he had four receptions, 133 yards, and a touchdown.

Borger falls to 1-5 on the year.

Pampa’s Bridwell leads Harvesters past Dalhart

Quarterback Tucker Bridwell added to his Amarillo-area passing lead in a huge way during Pampa’s 43-9 rout of Dalhart on Friday night.

Bridwell dissected the Golden Wolves secondary, throwing five touchdown passes on 30 of 42 passes for 436 yards.

Bridwell’s main target was Joey Hill, who caught 10 passes for 102 yards with two touchdowns. Kevin Sanchez snagged seven balls for a game-high 134 yards with a score.

Pampa improves to 5-1. Dalhart falls to 3-3.
