Thursday’s game

Amarillo High (2-2, 0-0) at Lubbock Monterey (2-3, 0-1), 7 p.m.

It’s ridiculous to say this is a must win game for both teams as far as the playoffs are concerned so early in the district season. Call me ridiculous. This is a must-win for both. AHS coming in from an off week is rested and ready to roll out a district opening win. … AHS 38, Monterey 21.

Friday’s games

Lubbock High (1-4, 0-1) at Palo Duro (2-3, 0-1), 7:30 p.m. 

Palo Duro bounces back from district-opening loss winning a wild one. … PD 35, Lubbock High 31

Abilene Cooper (5-0, 1-0) at Lubbock Coronado (3-2, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.

Early district showdown in Lubbock. Cooper has been a beast all year. Seth Parr’s Coronado Mustangs started slow but are rolling under stud QB Robertson. Go with the upset. … Coronado 42, Cooper 40

Friday’s games

Big Spring (1-4) at Canyon (5-0), 7 p.m.

The powerful Eagles offense will soar past the Steers. A 6-0 record awaits. … Canyon 45, Big Spring 14. 

Pampa (4-1) at Dalhart (3-2), 7 p.m. 

Pampa has been playing some of its best football of late behind QB Tucker Bridwell. Minus a bad outing against Bushland, the Golden Wolves haven’t been shabby themselves. … Pampa 42, Dalhart 24. 

Andrews (4-1) at Hereford (3-2), 7 p.m.

This is one of the better battles for a slow week 6. The Mustangs only loss is to a good Lubbock Cooper team. Hereford is tough at home. Take the Whitefaces. … Hereford 29, Andrews 26.

Borger (1-4) at Dumas (5-0), 7 p.m. 

Don’t expect the Demons to overlook a one-win Bulldogs team. They’ll be no upset alert at Demons Stadium. …

Dumas 35, Borger 7.

Lubbock Christian (5-0) at Tulia (3-1), 7 p.m.

Those who haven’t seen the Eagles need to pay attention. LCHS Is the real deal, and the Hornets will have their hands full. … Lubbock Christian 40, Tulia 20.

Stratford has ignited a spark and will look to continue that streak Friday at home taking on Perryton. The Elks take this one at home. … Stratford 35, Perryton 20

Childress (0-4) at Muenster (3-2), 7 p.m.

The Bobcats haven’t found the win column so far in 2019. Muenster looks to gain their fourth win on the year. Look for Childress to snap its losing ways on the road. … Childress 33, Muenster 21

Springlake-Earth (0-4) at Boys Ranch (0-4), 7 p.m.

Springlake-Earth travels to Boys Ranch Friday night with both teams eager to jump into the win column. It will come down to the end, but the Wolverines come out on top. … Springlake-Earth 24, Boys Ranch 18

Clarendon (3-2) at Plains (0-4), 7 p.m.

The Broncos have had a rough start to the year, however, with district play closing in, look for Clarendon to up its game against Plains. … Clarendon 47, Plains 20

Gruver (4-1) at Wheeler (4-1), 7 p.m.

The Greyhounds and Mustangs has a chance to be interesting. Wheeler has been turning heads with an electric offense, but can they slow down Greyhound QB Jalin Conyers. … Gruver 49, Wheeler 30

Memphis (1-3) at Vega (4-1), 7 p.m.

Vega plays host to a struggling Cyclones squad Friday night. The Longhorns take this one in premier fashion. … Vega 42, Memphis 13.

Happy (4-1) at McLean (3-1), 7:30 p.m.

Happy’s hot streak is going up against the defending Class 1A Division I state champs. Both teams have a dominant run game, but only one team has a Ben Crockett. … McLean 74, Happy 50

Lefors (2-2) at Valley (3-2), 7:30 p.m.

Valley picked up a big win in Groom last week and will look to continue that success this week at home. Parker Carson and the Patriots offense will get it done. … Valley 76 Lefors 28

Meadow (2-3) at Nazareth (1-2), 7:30 p.m. 

It’s week six and the Swifts have only played three games this season. They will host the Broncos for Homecoming and look to build momentum on a slow start to the season. … Nazareth 68, Meadow 56

Saturday’s game

White Deer (4-1) vs. Milford (4-1), 3 p.m. at Knox City This is a redemption game for a pair of top five teams coming off of losses last week. This game will be a close one, but White Deer’s strong defense will be the difference … White Deer 56, Milford 42
