The high school girls’ basketball 2025-2026 regular season is officially underway. Here’s 20 players to watch that will make a major impact in the Texas Panhandle that include Frenship’s Jada Jackson, Tascosa’ Devaeh Johnson, and Amarillo High’s Tyler Held.

Jada Jackson, Frenship, 6-2, post, Jr.
Jackson, the Hub City Preps Defensive MVP, came on the scene in a hurry as one of the best players not only on the South Plains but in the entire state of Texas. The TGCA All-State player, who is ranked among the top returners in Class 6A this season, averaged double-double numbers as a sophomore, leading the Lady Tigers by scoring 14.7 points a game and pulling down 13.1 rebounds a night.
Devaeh Johnson, Tascosa, 5-10, guard, Sr.
Johnson is one of Tascosa’s pivotal leaders returning for a loaded team under first-year head coach Zach Tabor. Johnson has been very consistent over the past two years and took an even bigger leap last season as not only a first-team All-District 3-5A selection, but also being named to the 2025 Press Pass Girls Basketball Team. Tyler Held, Amarillo High, 5-5, guard, Sr.

Ambrosia Cole, Lubbock Monterey Monterey, 5-7, guard, Sr.
The defending UIL Class 5A Division II state champion Lady Plainsman will be without superstar Aliyah Chavez, who is now making her name at the University of Oklahoma, but are still in great hands with players like Cole. The Hub City Preps Offensive MVP last year and Texas Tech commit, is well-equipped to take the torch pouring in 18.6 points a game with 3.7 assists and 2.6 assists as a junior.
Kam Soukup, Amarillo High, 5-10, forward, Jr.
Complimenting Held for the Amarillo High Lady Sandies and hoping to carry on the success is Soukup. An underrated player to many, the 5-10 versatile swing player had a very solid sophomore season, posting nine points a game with 3.2 rebounds a contest. Soukup shot 79.7 percent from the field while earning second-team All-District honors.
Nic’Kiyah Fisher, Tascosa, 5-9, guard, Sr.
Fisher is another ultra-talented player. The lightning quick guard is as good as advertised for a stacked Tascosa backcourt with Johnson. While her offense was solid averaging 8.7 points a game, Fisher is a defensive specialist being named the 3-5A Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 steals asa a junior.

Arianna Johnson, Monterey, 6-4, post, Sr.
While Cole handles the perimeter, Johnson handles everything in the paint with her 6-foot-4 stature. The Hub City Preps first-team selection a year ago, is a must-see player after a junior year that saw her average 11.9 points a game, clean the class for 8.3 rebounds and block 3.4 shots a night.
Addisyn Bollinger, Frenship, 5-11, guard, Sr.

Tai Wright, Canyon, 5-8, guard, Sr.
Making Canyon even more dangerous is the return of Wright making up quite the backcourt with Grasor. Wright is a dynamic player as well as a two-time TGCA All-State selection. Very good on both ends of the floor, Wright averaged six points a game for the Lady Eagles as a junior.

Segura plays with purpose and intensity night in and night out. The TGCA All-State selection was incredible as a sophomore, pouring in 10.1 points a night with 5.3 rebounds and shot 57 percent from the field.
Linley Wright, Shallowater, 5-2, guard, Sr.
It’s hard to duplicate the season Wright had last year, but that’s what the District 2-3A MVP is set out to do. The TGCA All-State and THSCA Super Team Elite player put up 13.4 points a game, finished with 131 steals, 88 assists and shot 75 percent from the charity stripe.
Preslie Wall, Idalou, 5-5, guard, Sr.
Idalou is a team always steeped in tradition and this year doesn’t change, especially with a player with the abilities of Wall. Madison Brockman, Nazareth, 5-6, guard, Sr.

Presley Smith, New Home, 5-7, guard, Soph.
What a year Smith put together as a freshman for the Lady Leopards. The do-it-all guard was the Newcomer of the Year out of the district, as well as a TABC All-Region selection. Smith earned those accolades thanks to utilizing her skills to average 11.6 points and 3.6 assists per night.
