The high school volleyball regular season starts this week, as teams across the Amarillo-area gear up for a thrilling 2024 campaign. Here’s 15 volleyball players to watch that will make a major impact in the Texas Panhandle.

Sidney Soria, Randall, Setter, 5-9, Sr.

Soria took her game to another level last season helping Randall back to the UIL Class 4A state championship game. The University of North Texas commit hopes to capitalize on a junior campaign that saw her dish out 1,793 assists with 445 digs and 408 kills. The All-State selection and District 4-4A Setter of the Year already has 3,417 career assists.

Mackenzie Sims, Bushland, setter, 5-7, Sr. 

Sims had a tremendous breakout junior year leading the Bushland Lady Falcons to the UIL Class 3A state championship title. Sims was named the state tournament MVP along with the District 1-3A MVP following a season that saw her total 853 assists with 323 kills and 313 digs.

Sienna Cavalier, Amarillo High, outside hitter, 5-7, Sr.

Cavalier embraces what Amarillo High volleyball is all about and she’s ready to leave it all on the floor for new head coach Haleigh Burns. Cavalier is coming off a masterful junior season where the District 3-5A MVP tallied 422 kills with 370 digs.

Piper Patterson, West Plains, outside hitter, 5-8, Sr.

Patterson is a leader for West Plains and a big reason the Lady Wolves were able to split with Randall for a District 4-4A championship. Patterson only looks to get better from a junior year where she blasted 344 kills to go with 33 blocks.

Sydnee Winfrey, Canyon, middle blocker, 5-11, Sr 

Following in the footsteps of the amazing sisters in front of her, Winfrey is carving her own path on the volleyball floor. With great size and leaping ability, the senior makes her presence known for any opponent she goes against. Last year, Winfrey had 281 kills and was key at the net with 101 solo blocks.

London Baker, Hereford, setter, 5-8, Sr. 

Baker finds her name on this list for a second straight year after another strong season for the Lady Whitefaces. Helping Hereford go three rounds deep in the UIL Class 4A playoffs, Baker finished her junior year averaging a double-double with 28 assists and 12 digs per match.

Brooke Henderson, Randall, outside hitter, 5-8, Sr. 

Henderson exploded on the scene last year and played a key role of getting Randall back to the UIL Class 4A state tournament. Henderson was a compliment to Soria and Jordyn Gove as a first-team All-District selection ending the year with 427 digs to go with 368 kills.

Kassidy Langeland, Tascosa, defensive specialist, 5-5, Sr. 

Langeland makes up a Lady Rebel team with a ton of talent and even bigger expectations in 2024. Langeland was amazing last year with 645 digs and 52 aces. For her efforts, Langeland was named as the District 3-5A Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

 Lilyann Shanon, Bushland, middle blocker, 5-10, Sr. 

Shannon got the opportunity to prove herself and ran with it during Bushland’s run to a Class 3A state championship last year. Shannon earned a spot on the Class 3A state tournament team, was the District 1-3A Newcomer of the Year as well as the Press Pass Sports Newcomer of the Year. Shannon’s breakout junior year saw her knock down 383 kills with 82 blocks.

Reese DeHart, River Road, setter, 5-4, Sr. 

DeHart is the heart and soul of the River Road Lady Wildcats, and it paid off earning District 1-3A Setter of the Year. DeHart was stellar running the offense dishing out 673 assists and hit the floor for 121 digs while serving up 57 aces.

Zoe Smith, West Texas High, libero, 5-1, Sr. 

There aren’t that play better defense than Smith the past couple of years. The Lady Comanche senior is the reigning two-time District 1-2A Defensive Player of the Year. Last year, her play on the court showed as she hit the hardwood for 257 digs.

Aniyah Kitchens, West Plains, middle blocker, 6-1, Sr. 

At 6-foot-1, Kitchens presents problems for opponent’s offenses. After seeing major growth last year, head coach Kaitlyn Cornelius has major expectations for Kitchens heading into 2024. As a junior, Kitchens used her size to get 91 blocks to go with 291 kills.

Maecie Hawthorne, Pampa, setter 6-3, Sr. 

Hawthorne had a massive junior year quarterbacking the offense for the Lady Harvesters. The 6-foot-3 setter was a first-team All-District pick went over 500 assists for the year and 2,000 assists for her career.

Sonell VanWyk, Wildorado, setter, 5-6, Sr.

VanWyk was a major compliment on a deep playoff run for the Lady Mustangs. The setter did it all averaging a triple double with 21 assists to go with 10 kills and 10 digs a game.

Landri Jay, Canyon, libero, 5-4, Sr. 

Jay may be one of the more underrated players in the Texas Panhandle and last year proved it. The 5-foot-4 libero was all over the court for Canyon stacking up 652 digs with 929 receptions to go with 57 assists.
