The Texas High School football season has hit the midway point of the 2025 season. Week 6 brings big-time district matchups along with some very good non-district games on Thursday and Friday night across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out how the Press Pass Sports team of Lance Lahnert, Lee Passmore, Craig Sperry and Kale Steed see things going.
THURSDAY’S GAMES
Class 4A
Andrews (2-3) at Lubbock Estacado (3-2), 7 p.m., Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park, Lubbock
Estacado is carrying significant momentum into another Thursday night game, as the Matadors handed Randall its first loss of the season a week ago. Andrews broke a three-game losing streak by beating Monahans last week. The Matadors have an extra day to prepare, and the incentive to play well since this is their final tune-up before district, plus an overall edge in speed. Oh, and there’s also the running and receiving of Cedric Ross. … Estacado 28, Andrews 14.
Class 1A
Lubbock Kingdom Prep (4-1) at Wildorado (0-5), 7 p.m.
It took forever for Groom to take down the Mustangs last week which should give Wildorado some confidence going into this week’s game. Unfortunately, the Warriors aren’t the opponent you want to see driving into town. … Lubbock Kingdom Prep 54, Wildorado 6.

FRIDAY’S GAMES
District 2-5A Division I
Amarillo High (4-1, 1-0) at Abilene High (3-2, 1-0), 7 p.m., Shotwell Stadium, Abilene
Showdown time in 2-5A DI. Since back in August this game had “winner moves into driver’s seat of winning district” written all over it. Still looks that way. Sandies handled the injury bug against Monterey and if the D holds up against elusive Abilene QB Brayden Henry, I see the minor upset happening. … Sandies 31, Eagles 28.
Lubbock High (1-3, 0-0) at Tascosa (3-2, 1-0), 7 p.m., Dick Bivins Stadium
Tascosa proved one thing against Coronado last week it knows how to wake up scoring 37 points in the third quarter breaking a halftime tie. The question is, what did Coach Plunk say at half? Lubbock has had two weeks to prep for the Rebs option offense in this 47th meeting between the two and feature running back Bo Davis (he AVERAGES 205 yards per game). Happy Homecoming for the Rebs. … Tascosa 49, Lubbock 21.
Lubbock Coronado (0-5, 0-1) vs. Lubbock Monterey (2-3, 0-1) 7 p.m., Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Park, Lubbock
LISD rivalry deluxe with these two meeting for the 61st time. Coronado is coming off the best half of its year (tied with Tascosa at half) and biggest collapse (allowed the Rebs 37 points in the third quarter). Monterey had its moments in the sun against Amarillo last week but struggled with penalties and stopping the run. Give Monterey coach Jason Sims his first district win as the Plainsmen head coach. … Monterey 42, Coronado 14.
District 2-5A Division II
Palo Duro (3-1, 0-0) at Wichita Falls Memorial (4-1, 0-0), 7 p.m., Memorial Stadium, Wichita Falls
Palo Duro had the bye in this crazy district last week to get healthy and prep for Memorial. Memorial goes out and gets stunned by Abilene Cooper so PD is dealing with a hornets nest in this one. If Cooper can do it, why not the Dons, IF, they play the way they did against Amarillo High. Sure, long road trip, but I’m a believer. … Palo Duro 24, Memorial 17.
Wichita Falls Legacy (1-4, 0-1) at Lubbock Cooper (3-2, 0-1), 7 p.m., First United Park at Pirates Stadium, Woodrow:
Ouch. Legacy feels the brunt of Cooper coming off an upset loss. … Cooper 42, Legacy 17
Abilene Cooper (3-2, 1-0) at Abilene Wylie (3-2, 1-0) at Abilene Cooper (3-2, 1-0), 7 p.m., Hugh Sandifer Stadium, Abilene
First place after week two is on the line in this 8th meeting between the two rivals. Cooper sent an early message to this district last week with the eye-opening win over Memorial, 42-27. Wylie is tough at home going 8-1 in its last nine games at Hugh’s House. … Wylie 21, Cooper 20.
Lance Lahnert
Last week: 5-2 (.714)
Season: 23-10 (.696)
Class 4A
West Plains (4-0) at Argyle Liberty Christian (2-2), 6:30 p.m.
Liberty Christian is the last team to beat West Plains in the regular season, crushing the Wolves 56-7 at Happy State Bank Stadium in 2025. The only loss they’ve had since then was in last year’s state semis to Celina. The Wolves have plenty of incentive in their final tune-up before district. Playing on the road will be a challenge, though, against the team coached by former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. … Liberty Christian 31, West Plains 28.
Bushland (1-4) at Perryton (3-2), 7 p.m.
These teams have been heading in opposite directions lately, as Perryton has scored two solid back-to-back wins with big offensive performances while Bushland has lost four straight playing a brutal schedule. That doesn’t mean that this won’t be an intriguing game, though, as both teams have shown the ability to punch above their weight competition wise. There’s potential for an offensive shootout as well, but Perryton has a bit more depth. … Perryton 31, Bushland 21.
Seminole (3-2) at Hereford (1-3), 7 p.m.
This one should be a serious test for the scoreboard operators at Whiteface Stadium, as both teams are capable of lighting it up offensively. Hereford would have a better record if the Herd were able to make a stop here and there defensively, something they should have addressed during their open week last week. Seminole has gone for over 45 points in all three wins, and the Indians look likely to do so again this week. … Seminole 49, Hereford 34.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (5-0) at Midland Greenwood (5-0), 7 p.m.
This might be the game of the week in the 806 as a nondistrict clash between two unbeatens who can also light up the scoreboard and who could potentially meet in the postseason. Liberty hasn’t looked like a second-year program this year, and Greenwood is averaging over 46 points a game. The road trip will be enough of a challenge for the Patriots, but they’ve proved up to every one so far. … Liberty 34, Greenwood 28.
Borger (0-5) at Denver City (1-4), 7 p.m.
Both of these teams are desperate to get something positive going after rough starts to the season. Borger is still looking for a win and hasn’t lost any game by fewer than 22 points and Denver City has lost four straight, including 75-0 to Seminole last week. While Borger is averaging under nine points a game, Denver City has shown a bit of offense. That and homefield advantage gives the Mustangs the edge. … Denver City 23, Borger 13.
Lee Passmore
Last week: 2-2 (.500)
Season: 23-8 (.742)
Class 3A
Canadian (5-0) at Shallowater (2-3), 7 p.m.
Don’t let Shallowater’s three losses fool you. The Mustangs are a very good football team and this is a long road trip for the Wildcats. This should be a great small school matchup. … Canadian 34, Shallowater 27.
Gruver (4-1) at River Road (1-3), 7 p.m.
The Greyhounds are looking to close out non-district with major momentum and not overlook the Wildcats before a showdown with Stratford next week. … Gruver 45, River Road 18.
Muleshoe (2-3) at Dalhart (4-1), 7 p.m.
The Mules are struggling at the moment dropping their last three games. On the other side, The Golden Wolves are doing nothing but picking up momentum each week. … Dalhart 48, Muleshoe 30.
Dimmitt (4-1) at Slaton (4-1), 7 p.m.
This will be the Bobcats biggest test to date. Both teams love to run the football but the Tigers are explosive. Let’s see if Dimmitt can hang in. … Slaton 35, Dimmitt 20.
Tulia (2-3) at Lubbock Trinity (2-2), 7 p.m.
The Hornets need to get their buzz back after losing two straight but this will be a hard time to do it. … Lubbock Trinity 35, Tulia 19.
Wall (5-0) at Idalou (3-2), 7 p.m.
This is a regional showdown fit for November or December. Two of Class 3A Division II’s best meeting up for a non-district game on the South Plains. So far, nothing has looked to slow the Hawks down in 2025. … Wall 35, Idalou 24.
Kale Steed
Last week: 6-2 (.750)
Season: 33-7 (.825)
Class 2A
Friona (1-4) at Farwell (3-1), 7 p.m.
The Steers are oozing with momentum after beating Post last week. … Farwell 42, Friona 21.
Childress (3-2) at Stratford (4-1), 7 p.m.
Here’s another good small school non-district matchup between two traditional powers. Give me the Elks down the stretch for the win. … Stratford 37, Childress 23.
Memphis (2-2) at Vega (2-3), 7 p.m.
The Cyclones and Longhorns have had their ups and downs so far this year. A win could get one of these teams some momentum heading into district play. … Vega 28, Memphis 22.
Kale Steed
Last week: 11-3 (.785)
Season: 45-16 (.737)
Class 1A
Booker (3-2) at Follett (2-3), 7 p.m.
The battle of Lipscomb County has been pretty one-sided with the Panthers winning both matchups since the Kiowas dropped down to the Six-Man ranks. This time neither team appears to have the upper hand which means momentum and turnovers will be big. Booker will need to use their athleticism to find the edge and they have to slow down Wyatt Terrell. … Booker 48, Follett 44.
Amarillo PCHEA (3-2) at Boys Ranch (4-1), 7 p.m.
You have to believe in what Coach Kelly has cooking at the Ranch. The Roughriders won’t waste time putting away the Warriors as they get ready for district action next week. … Boys Ranch 70, Amarillo PCHEA 12.
Valley (0-5) at Claude (4-1), 7 p.m.
If you just look at the records this looks like an easy one for the Mustangs. Nothing could be further from the truth as the Patriots have one of the toughest non-district slates in the state. The Mustangs, however, have the ground game rocking and a lot of confidence. This will be closer than most expect but it might be the year Claude finds the postseason. … Claude 60, Valley 54.
McLean (1-4) at Happy (0-5), 7 p.m.
The status of Stran Henderson will determine how this game looks. If he plays the Tigers will roll but if he’s unable to go then the Cowboys have a shot. Happy will be pumped with it being homecoming but the Tigers still have enough to pull this one off. … McLean 56, Happy 32.
Hedley (0-4) at Guthrie (3-1), 7 p.m.
A long road trip for the Owls and the Jaguars are just the better team. … Guthrie 48, Hedley 6.
Amarillo FFC (1-4) at Lefors (3-2), 7 p.m.
It’s been an up and down season for the Pirate ship, but they are ready to sail smoother seas this week when the Lions enter town. … Lefors 54, Amarillo FFC 8.
Holy Cross Catholic Academy (0-2) at Miami (5-0), 7 p.m.
District action is around the corner for the Warriors and they will likely enter play undefeated. … Miami 60, Holy Cross 6.
San Jacinto Christian Academy (2-3) at Plainview Classical (1-4), 7 p.m.
After back-to-back tough games the Patriots won’t be challenged as the running game takes hold. … San Jacinto Christian Academy 62 Plainview Classical 12.
Springlake-Earth (2-3) at Whiteface (3-2), 7 p.m.
On the surface this appears to be a game the Wolverines could win but the Antelopes have been working through some injuries and are getting healthier. One of the more physical teams on the South Plains will be too much for the visitors. … Whiteface 60, Springlake-Earth 20.
White Deer (4-1) at Kress (4-1), 7 p.m.
Who would have known both teams would only have one loss on their record midway through the season but that’s where we are. The Bucks have a great one-two combo in the backfield and Lucas Radina is dangerous catching the ball. That combo will be too much for the Kangaroos to overcome. … White Deer 54, Kress 42.
Hart (4-0) at Anton (2-3), 7 p.m.
Bubba left, Bubba right, Bubba up the middle. Bubba would be Hart’s Tradien “Bubba” Worsham who will find running lanes all night long. … Hart 70, Anton 32.
Lazbuddie (1-3) at Logan, N.M. (5-1), 7 p.m.
A trip across the state border into New Mexico will not yield a Land of Enchantment for the Longhorns as the home team rolls. … Logan 66, Lazbuddie 8.
Meadow (5-0) at Lorenzo (2-3), 7:30 p.m.
One of the surprises on the South Plains are the undefeated Broncos. To make it six in a row they will have to topple a Hornets team that has been in its fair share of tight games this year. … Meadow 46, Lorenzo 44.
Petersburg (1-4) at Motley County (5-0), 7:30 p.m.
After picking up their first win of the season the Buffaloes would love to build some momentum, but they have the wrong team on the schedule. The highly ranked Matadors lost their best player, but they are still really good. … Motley County 52, Petersburg 6.
Groom (2-3) at Silverton (0-5), 7:30 p.m.
Mistakes have hampered the Owls all season long and that’s led to a tough start to the season. If they can take care of the ball, they have a chance to pull this one off. On the opposite side of the ball, the Tigers aren’t as talented as previous squads but they do play hard. … Groom 68, Silverton 62.
Nazareth (3-2) at Whitharral (5-0), 7:30 p.m.
The one thing the Swifts can’t do this week is get too far behind because the Panthers won’t allow them to make up much of a deficit. If Nazareth can slow Whitharral down and the offense continues to score in bunches then they stand a good shot of pulling the upset. Here’s your upset special of the week. … Nazareth 52, Whitharral 48.
