Tyler Paige and Ian Ansett made three grueling days count down the stretch by coming up clutch when it counted rallying back to win the 32nd Coors Partership Golf Tournament on the first playoff hole to defeat Zack Norrell and Josh McCoy on the first playoff hole at the Comanche Trails Golf Complex Arrowhead Course Sunday afternoon.
Paige and Ansett fired a 54-hole of 188 (28-under par) including a Sunday round of 65.
For Paige, his red-hot summer continues winning his third Amarillo Golf Major in the last two months.
“I feel like I’ve hit the ball probably the best I’ve have all summer,” Paige said. “I’m not making a lot of mistakes right now and I’m ready for next week’s Coors Tournament of Champions.”
For Ansett, it’s the South African’s first ever Amarillo Major win as he’s now qualified for his first Coors Tournament of Champions Tournament which is set to start Thursday at the Amarillo Country Club.
“It was a grind most of the day,” Ansett said. “But Tyler had my back throughout the day and this is exciting.”
Paige and Ansett trailed Saturday’s leader Norrell-McCoy by a stroke entering Sunday and were trailing for most of Sunday. Paige and Ansett were able to pull into a tie with Norrell-McCoy with a birdie on No. 17 and force a playoff. On the first playoff hole, Ansett sank a 5-foot putt that allowed the rally to be complete and earn the duo the victory.
“We just kept our heads down and played like we knew we could,” Ansett said.”
Paige echoed Ansett’s comment.
“We were able to stay patient most of the day,” Paige said. “We were able to get it going and chipped away and finished it off at the end.”
