Trevor Cordova is headed back to familiar territory accepting the new athletic director and head baseball coaching position at Tulia High School being officially named Friday morning.

Cordova has spent the last seven years serving at his Alma mater, Caprock, serving as the Longhorns baseball coach as well as an assistant coach on the football staff, but when a chance to become an athletic director approached Cordova, it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“It was extremely difficult leaving Caprock,” Cordova said. “Caprock is home for me. They have amazing teachers and administration, and the kids are awesome. I loved working for coach (Dan) Sherwood and then coach (Rowdy) Freeman. There are so many great coaches at Caprock, but I’ve always wanted to pursue being an athletic director and this was the right time for myself and my family.”

Cordova isn’t a stranger to Tulia having a very positive experience running the Hornets baseball program from 2016-2018 before venturing to Caprock. Coming back to Tulia, Cordova is more than excited to take the experience he’s gained to spread to the Tulia coaching staff.

“I’ve always had a passion for coaching,” Cordova said. “I love building a relationship for kids and the coaches I work alongside. I want to make sure that we establish a program at Tulia that is positive and does want to win but more importantly helps these kids become great adults when they get into everyday society.”

Learning under the coaches before him, and the athletic directors he’s worked with, Cordova is confident that he’ll do the right things on and off the field to keep Tulia headed in the right direction.

“I’ve learned a lot in these past seven years at Caprock,” Cordova said. “We all love winning and all but I love staying in touch with the kids that graduate and become adults and then become your friends in life. I want us to focus on academics as much as athletics and I want to be there for any coach that is wanting help. Our job is to be role models for these kids and that’s what I want myself and this staff to go out and accomplish every single day.”
