Amarillo High sweeps Abilene Cooper
It was a wild 24 hours for Amarillo High, but the Lady Sandies did get the result they were looking for getting a two-game sweep of Abilene Cooper during the UIL Class 5A Division I bi-district round at Lubbock-Cooper.
Due to severe weather and heavy rains, the Lady Sandies weren’t able to play Abilene Cooper until 11 p.m. Friday night and didn’t finish until 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The waiting game didn’t hurt the Lady Sandies as they got a 2-1 win against the Lady Cougars.
Not 24 hours later, AHS took the field once again Saturday afternoon and were able to complete the sweep downing Cooper 4-1.

AHS (25-8-2) advances to the area round to matchup against El Paso Chapin (24-8-2) at a time and place to be determined.
Outstanding pitching did the job for the Lady Sandies in the series sweep of Cooper. On Friday night, Ambree Anglin did her job by throwing six strong innings scattering three hits with 10 strikeouts to get the win. Mykaela Samuels nailed down the save in the final inning getting a strikeout. On Saturday, it was Samuels getting the start tossing three innings giving up four hits without a run with a pair of K’s. Anglin worked the final four innings allowing one run with three strikeouts for the save.
AHS did just enough offensively to support the outstanding pitching. Brylee Baker was a combined 3-for-6 in the series with an RBI double. Brianna Cloud went 2-for-4 in the two games.

Class 4A
Dumas rallies past Seminole
Dumas is the only team from District 4-4A left standing after having to rally past Seminole for two wins Saturday in the UIL Class 4A Division I bi-district round in Plainview.
The Demonettes, the District 4-4A champions, dropped Friday’s opener 6-4, however, Dumas pulled it together with a dominating Saturday effort blasting Seminole 13-0 to even the series and the winning the best of three with a convincing 10-0 victory.
The Demonettes improve to 30-5 on the year and are headed to face El Paso Ysleta (16-14-1) in the area round with a three-game series starting Thursday night in Seminole.
Following Friday’s loss, Dumas completely dominated outscoring Seminole by a combined 23-0 on Saturday. The Demonettes offense got the bats going totaling 24 hits with 15 extra base-hits. Aaliyah Chairez feasted on Seminole on Saturday going 5-for-8 in the two wins with a homer and two doubles to finish with five RBIs.
To seal the series, Dumas flexed its muscle with Madi Zubia, Suzette Reyes and Sania Reyes all going deep. Sania Reyes drove in four runs and Lisbeth Quiroz added two doubles.

Class 3A
Bushland blasts Littlefield
The Bushland Lady Falcons opened the UIL Class 3A Division I playoffs up in a big way blasting Littlefield 10-1 to win the bi-district crown Thursday night in Littlefield.
The Lady Falcons put this game away in the first two innings scoring five runs to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Chayney Snelson was on fire during the win going 2-for-5 hitting an inside-the-park home run and doubled to end the contest with four RBIs. Piper Francis, Charley Spinks, Addison Appier, Haylee Ruiz and Kami Albus all doubled.
Farryn McKown made life easy on the defense throwing a complete game giving up only two hits with six strikeouts to earn the win.
Bushland (18-13) is now headed to the area round to take on Denver City (17-7) with a three-game series starting Thursday night at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

River Road advances past Shallowater
It took all three games, but River Road was able to advance by beating Shallowater in the UIL Class 3A Division I bi-district round Thursday through Saturday in Hereford.
The Lady Wildcats won Thursday’s opener 8-4 before the Fillies evened things up with a 4-3-win Friday. However, River Road put on a dominant effort during Saturday’s rubber match getting an 11-0 shutout to move on.
River Road (24-8) will now take on Brownfield (12-12) in the second round of the playoffs with the first of a three-game series starting Thursday in Floydada.
Ashlyn Ferris was outstanding leading the Lady Wildcats during Saturday’s win or go-home scenario. Ferris simply couldn’t be stopped going 3-for-4 with two home runs including a walk-off grand slam to seal the series win. Ferris went on to end Saturday with seven RBIs. Ferris was also clutch during Thursday’s win going 2-for-4 with an RBI triple.
Teammate Carolyn Koval also had MVP consideration for the series. On top of being intentionally walked eight times in the series, Koval still did her job Thursday going 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs. Koval was also excellent in the circle tossing a combined 12 innings surrendering only one run combining for 15 strikeouts.

Childress edges Slaton
It wasn’t easy by any means, however, Childress was able to hang on and beat Slaton in a one-game scenario to win the UIL Class 3A Division II bi-district title Thursday night in Floydada.
The Lady Bobcats had opened up a 5-2 lead thanks to a three-run fourth inning. Slaton battled back scoring two runs in the final two innings, but Childress was able to slam the door on the rally.
The Lady Bobcats (16-11) advance to play No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Coahoma (27-0) in a one-game area round game at 5 p.m. on Friday in Lamesa.
Kaleigh Ross led Childress against Slaton going a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer and a double to finish the game with three RBIs. KJ Felton was also 3-for-3 and scored a run while Ansley Parr racked up 13 strikeouts over seven innings but she did have to overcome nine walks.

Class 2A
Clarendon rolls by Sanford-Fritch
It took a while for Clarendon to get going but once the Lady Broncos found their groove it was hard to get them stopped during a two-game sweep of Sanford-Fritch in a Class 2A Division I bi-district matchup Thursday at the Highland Park Softball Complex.
The Lady Broncos started slowing but went on for an 8-3 win in the opening game and then followed that with a dominating 17-6 victory to close out the series on the Lady Eagles.
Fritch actually led the opening contest 2-0 through the first four innings before Clarendon got it going. The top of the fifth is when the momentum shifted. The Lady Broncos plated five-runs in that fifth inning taking a 5-2 lead highlighted by a Tandie Cummins triple and a two-run blast from Elliott Frausto.
In the second game, it was 10-run second inning setting the tone for Clarendon. Tandie Cummins was unbelievable in the second game going 3-for-3 with two home runs while adding a double to end the day with seven RBIs. For the series, Tandie five total hits and worked five innings in the circle with four strikeouts.
Hayden Elam also crushed Lady Eagles pitching going a combined 5-for-7 with five total RBIs in the two games.
Clarendon (24-5-1) is now headed to the area round of the playoffs to take on Hale Center (21-5) with a three-game series starting Thursday in Floydada.

Gruver makes program history
The Gruver Lady Hounds made school history by not only winning the programs first playoff game but winning the first postseason series to capture the UIL Class 2A Division II bi-district trophy on Saturday.
Gruver made history in a very convincing way sweeping Lockney with two lopsided wins getting a 12-2 victory in the opening game and an 11-1 blowout in the second game for the sweep.
The Lady Hounds (15-8) now face-off with Sundown (24-5) in the area round at a time and place to be determined.
Paula Diaz paced the Lady Hounds with a triple in the opening game against Lockney finishing with a pair of RBIs. Carly Neely had a two-run double and added six strikeouts in the win.
On Saturday, Marlee Maupin shining going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
