District 3-4A Boys

West Plains and Borger was a highlight clash in District 3-4A last week with the Wolves getting a 2-1-win Friday at Bulldogs Stadium in Borger.

West Plains took an early 1-0 lead, on a thrilling goal from Benjamin Williamson after he dribbled through defenders creating space to get a shot by the Bulldog goalie.

West Plains was able to tack on to that advantage with 6:20 left when Francisco Silvestre floated a free kick over the goalies’ head for a score giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The score remand 2-0 late into the second half when Borger was able to get on the board thanks to a score from Ivan Reyes cutting the Bulldog deficit to 2-1. Borger tried to continue that rally but came up short as West Plains went on for the district victory.

Earlier in the week, the Wolves were able to pick up a win against rival Canyon 5-1 pushing West Plains record to 11-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in District 3-4A.

The loss to West Plains capped off a tough week for the Borger with a 2-1 loss to Perryton also suffered. The Bulldogs are now 7-9 overall and 4-4 in league action.

District quick hits

Perryton and Dumas both had strong weeks each earning a pair of victories. On top of a 2-1 win against Borger, the Rangers also defeated Randall 9-1. Perryton (9-6) remains strong in district at 7-1.

Dumas nabbed two wins with two shutouts of Pampa 3-0 and Hereford 10. The Demons were led in scoring by Santiago Vega’s three goals with teammate Saul Calderon’s two scores. Dumas improves to 10-2 on the year and 7-1 in District 3-4A.

Pampa bounced back from a loss to Dumas defeating Canyon 2-1 to go 1-1 on the week. Ervin Torres and Ismael Perez provided goals for the Harvesters. Torres also added an assist. The Harvesters (6-6-3) are looking at a 2-3-2 district mark.

In District 3-5A, Caprock continues to look strong with another perfect week. The Longhorns dismantled Lubbock High 4-0 then earned a hard fought vicory against rival Tascosa 1-0. Aldo Carrasco scored four goals in the two wins with Luis Castellon adding an assist in each game. The Longhorns currently sit 8-1 in district and 12-2 on the year.

Tascosa did claim a win beating Plainview 2-1 moving to 9-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in league play.

The Palo Duro Dons met rival Amarillo High for the second round of District 3-5A with the two teams playing to a 1-1 tie. Angel Garcia scored the lone goal for the Dons. Palo Duro also tied Lubbock-Cooper pushing its record to 7-4-2 on the season and 4-4-2 in district. The Sandies did get a win beating Lubbock Coronado 1-0. AHS (5-6-2) is now 2-5-1 in the league.

District 3-4A Girls

The Canyon Lady Eagles remained in the playoff hunt in District 3-4A going 1-1 last week.

The Lady Eagles did fall to West Plains 3-0 but were able to rebound and get a 5-0 shutout win against Pampa. The Lady Eagles (5-9-3) are in the mix for the postseason currently sitting at 5-3 in district action.

Aspen Esch led the way for the Lady Eagles with two goals and an assist against the Lady Harvesters with Avery Thomas, Brenna Callahan and Jaylee Blakely all adding goals.

District quick hits

Following a blanking of Canyon, West Plains earned a 2-1 home win against Borger on Friday. Kat Torres and Lydia Aikman provided the goals with Mya Bartlett dishing out the assists. The Lady Wolves (10-3-2) stay atop the league race at 7-1.

Though Borger did fall to West Plains, the Lady Bulldogs were able to pummel Perryton 8-0. Riley Lumpkin was stellar in the win scoring four goals while tacking on an assist. Borger (9-4) sits at 5-3 in District 3-4A.

Randall remains all alone in first place of District 3-4A with another outstanding week. The Lady Raiders dominated Hereford 14-0 then beat Perryton 6-0. The Lady Raiders stay perfect at 8-0 in the league and 12-5 overall. Kyndal McClain scored five goals with two assists last week. Lyla Williams and Ryann Davis also added two scores.

Dumas collected two home wins beating Pampa 2-0 and gaining another shutout this time of Hereford 6-0. The Demonettes (3-10) stay in the mix of a playoff spot at 3-5 in district.

In District 3-5A, Amarillo High stayed hot with two shutout victories. The Lady Sandies took care of Palo Duro 7-0, then blanked Lubbock Coronado 5-0. Sophia Hernandez was a key cog for AHS scoring four goals with a pair of assists. The Lady Sandies are now an impressive 12-1-1 overall and 9-0-1 in district action.

Tascosa was excellent last week downing Plainview 10-0 and shutting out Caprock 3-0. Tabitha Fowler was superb for the Lady Rebels netting a hattrick against the Lady Bulldogs. Teammate Alaina Gomez tallied three goals in both wins. Tascosa (7-4-2) is right in the mix of the league at 7-2-1.
