
The Spearman Lynxettes capped off a fantastic golf season with a furious finish to grab second place and a silver medal during the UIL Class 2A state girls’ golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Lions Golf Course in Austin.
Spearman, which was making their first appearance as a team in over 30 years, had already had an incredible season winning the district and regional championship but put a stamp on the year with a Tuesday rally to get on the medal stand with a two-day total of 736. Mason was the state champion dominating the tournament with a 664.

After Monday’s first 18 holes, Spearman sat in fourth place shooting an opening round 380 to trail Wink by six shots for third and Sonora by 11 strokes for second place. However, the Lynxettes put it together on the final day shaving off 24 strokes to shoot a 356 on day to and go from fourth to second place and land a silver medal as a team.
Freshman Izzabella Slover, the district and regional individual champion, paced Spearman once again with a top 10 finish. Slover had her ups and downs but was able to tie for ninth individually posting an 87 on Monday but bounced back with a 79 on Tuesday for a 36-hole tally of 166. Teammate Jaslene Baca came in 23rd with scores of 98-87 for a 185. Acey Womble was 26th with a two-day score of 187.
Individually, Wellington’s Allie Duncan placed 16th overall. Duncan fired an 84 on Monday and a 91 on Tuesday for a total of 175.
Mason’s Ainsley Burns was the individual state champion boasting a 3-under par 140 over two days.

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies didn’t come away with a medal during a very competitive UIL Class 5A state golf tournament but still had a solid showing coming in sixth overall with a team score of 639.
AHS shot a 319 during Monday’s first round and then tallied a 320 on day two. San Antonio Alamo Heights was the team state champion with an impressive even par 36-hole score of 589 to win by 20 strokes over Frisco Centennial (609).
Addison Britten had two great days for the Lady Sandies finishing 12th individually with a 150. Britton shot a 74 to open her state tournament Monday and then followed that with a 76 on Tuesday.
Teammate Tyler Helm came in 34th for the Lady Sandies. Helm shots two rounds of 80 for a 160.
Addie Surber of Montgomery Lake Creek won a playoff for the state championship with a 140.

State quick hits
The Bushland Lady Falcons took sixth place overall during the UIL Class 3A state tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin. The Lady Falcons had a 36-hole total of 724. Avary Brookshire led the Lady Falcons coming in tied for 18th with scores of 83-90 for a 173.
The Lazbuddie Lady Longhorns placed ninth with the Happy Cowgirls coming in 10th during the UIL Class 1A state tournament at the Crystal Falls Golf Club in Austin. Lazbuddie had a team score of 154 with Happy posting a 167. Individually, Kelton’s Neely Davis had the best showing placing 16th. Davis shot a 94-100 for a 194.
