Rivalry night: Amarillo High holds off Tascosa; Randall downs Canyon

Two of the biggest volleyball rivalries took place in the Amarillo-Area on Tuesday night.

Amarillo High hosted crosstown rival Tascosa while Randall made the trip south down I-27 to face Canyon.

Lady Sandies survives Lady Rebels late surge

Amarillo High and Tascosa lived up to the hype of its rivalry, though it looked like the Lady Sandies were going to run away with a three-game sweep.

AHS took the first two sets before Tascosa finally rallied by forcing a fifth game. The Lady Sandies fire power in the middle turned out to be the differnecr in the end.

Senior Hannah Shipman had 44 assists. Ashlyn Vinyard added 14 kills.

Tascosa was led by Taryn Galt’s 21 kills. Teammate Aaliyah Hardy had 48 assists.

AHS def. Tascosa 25-23, 25-11, 23-25, 15-9

Records: Tascosa 6-2; AHS 2-4.

AHS— Ashlyn Vinyard: 14 kills, 5 blocks, 3 aces.

Tascosa— Taryn Galt 21 kills. AaliyahHardy 48 assists, 3 aces.

Randall sweeps rival Canyon

The Haleigh Burns era is off to a great start as the new head coaches team took down the Lady Eagles in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-14 sweep.

Senior Brianna Ford paved the way for Randall, knocking down 13 kills to go with three blocks.

Teammate Kiar Parker tacked on nine kills with two blocks.

Canyon’s Lauren Bell had 20 assists while Bryli Contreras added 17 digs.

Randall moves to 5-0, while Canyon falls to 6-6.

Randall def. Canyon 25-16, 25-14, 25-14

Records: Randall 5-0; Canyon 6-6.
