HS Soccer roundup: AHS boys hold off Caprock; Canyon girls stay hot

District 3-5A roundup

The Amarillo High Sandies stayed a game back behind Palo Duro at the halfway point of the District 3-5A season by downing Caprock in a hard fought 1-0 shutout on Monday.

Seth Scroggins scored the lone goal of the game for AHS off an assist from Carter Neely.

The Sandies move to 12-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in district. Caprock falls to 8-5-3, 2-2-0.

The Dons completed the first half of district unbeaten getting a 3-2 win against Tascosa on Monday.

Palo Duro prolific scorer Jaime Carrillo netted two goals and dished out an assist. The Dons are 4-0-0 in league play and 16-2-1 overall.

In girls action, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies competed a perfect first half of District 3-5A play dismanting Caprock 10-1 on Monday.

The Lady Sandies run their record to 4-0-0 in district and 14-2-2 overall. Caprock drops to 6-11-2, 0-3-1.

Nicole Gray tallied a hat trick in the victory, while teammate Lily Sobey scored a goal, and added three assists.

Tascosa earned its first district win of the year holding off Palo Duro by a 2-1 count Tuesday.

The Lady Rebels were led by goals from Carly Stockard and Sophia DeLeon. Tascosa finishes the first half of district 1-2-1, and are 4-10-1 overall. Palo Duro falls to 3-8-1, 1-3-0.

District 2-4A

Borger shutout out Dumas in a boys District 2-4A clash 2-0 on Tuesday night in Dumas.

The Bulldogs stay a game back of Pampa in the league chase at 3-1-0, and 6-7-1 overall.

Dumas drops to 3-10-0 overall, and 1-3-0 at the midway point of district.

Borger’s Clay Ellliott found the back of the net in the 68th minute, and tacked on a first half assist.

Pampa kept its strong hold of the first place in district blanking Canyon 6-0 at Happy State Bank Stadium on Monday.

Justin Martinez is having a banner year for the Harvesters racking up another hat trick in the win.

Pamp runs its record to an eye-opening 13-2-1, and an unblemished 4-0-0 in the league. Canyon (3-13-1) remains winless in district at 0-4-0.

On the girls side, Canyon remained all alone in first place in District 2-4A beating Pampa at home 3-1 on Monday.

Bryleigh Burks continued her stellar season with a pair of goals. Kadence Penner also scored, and Gracie Van Winkle had an assist. The Lady Eagles are an impressive 4-0-0 through district and 9-8-1 on the year. The Lady Harvesters are 6-9-2, 0-2-2.

The Dumas Demonettes nabbed a 2-1 come-from-behind win at Borger on Tuesday night.

Dumas trailed 1-0 at the half, however, Leslie Chavez tied the game, 1-1, in the 50th minute off an assist from Tori Harris. The Demonettes made the rally complete on an unassisted score from Arisbeth Loya in the 76th minute.

Dumas improves to 3-8-2 overall, and 1-1-2 in district. Borger is now 1-12-2, 0-2-2.
