The high school volleyball season is in full swing with the first weekend of tournaments complete to end a very busy week of regular season action. Check out how teams from across the Texas Panhandle and the South Plains did from Thursday to Saturday.
Randall looks strong at Westwood Tournament
Fresh off a state runner-up appearance last season, the new-look Randall Lady Raiders are off to a great start to the 2025 campaign to close out the opening week of volleyball play.
Randall went 5-3 at the Westwood Tournament to finish in the top eight of out of 32 teams at the tournament. The Lady Raiders went 3-0 on Thursday’s opening afternoon defeating Richardson, Pflugerville and Westwood. On Friday, Randall went 2-1 knocking off Cedar Ridge and Concordia Lutheran before falling to Weiss.

Unfortunately, Randall didn’t sustain that momentum during Saturday’s bracket play dropping a pair of matches to Round Rock and Stony Point.
Kambree Gonzalez did have quite the weekend for the Lady Raiders. The junior Libero executed tremendous defense in the eight matches totaling 60 digs putting her over 500 for her career. Freshman Chloe Brown has been a huge bright spot so far for Randall and that showed over the weekend as Brown landed 62 kills.
Amarillo-area teams have superb showing at Mansfield
As always, the Texas Panhandle was well represented at the prestigious Mansfield Tournament over the weekend.
Tascosa, West Plains, Canyon and Bushland all left with strong efforts.
Tascosa went 6-2 overall during the tournament under first-year head coach Carley McCracken. The Lady Rebels (6-2 overall) went 4-2 at the Mansfield Tournament nabbing wins over Canutillo (25-17, 25-14), West Plains (25-20, 25-21), Canyon (25-23, 25-15) and Hereford (25-15, 25-13). Berkley Harper provided the offense combining for 46 kills. Bennet Berryman provided the defense totaling 65 digs.
Bushland ended the tournament with a 5-3 mark. The Lady Falcons, the back-to-back state champions, earned wins in bracket play against Keller Timber Creek and South Grand Prairie on Saturday. Berklee Billington was outstanding accumulating 62 kills with 61 digs. Teammate Jory Clark added 54 kills, and Ava Permenter went for 159 digs.
West Plains put up a 4-4 record in Mansfield as Idaly Sotelo and Teagan Hudson earned All-Tournament honors. Sotelo finished the tournament with 108 digs to go with three aces. Hudson had 40 kills and 38 digs.
Canyon was 3-4 on the weekend but did take down South Grand Prairie on Saturday, 25-22, 25-21. Laney Jones is on fire to start the year and that showed in Mansfield as Jones had 82 kills with 49 digs.
Tournament Quick hits
Amarillo High went 7-2 at the Pearland Tournament. The Lady Sandies started off hot at 7-0 over the first two days before dropping matches to Keller and Lake Travis on Saturday. Sophomore sensation Harper Vaughn showed her power combining for 58 kills. Teammate Bennet Rea quarterbacked the offense tallying 110 assists.
It was a solid two days for the Vega Lady Longhorns at the Dimmitt Tournament. Vega went 4-2 on Friday and Saturday but more importantly were 3-0 during bracket play to capture the Dimmitt Tournament title after beating River Road in the championship match, 25-27, 25-15, 15-4. Khloe Griffitt paced Vega in the win against the Lady Cats with 14 digs, nine kills and a pair of aces. Teammate Madelynn Wellman had 22 assists and Rachel Adams added eight kills with seven digs.
The Shallowater Fillies defended home court to capture the Shallowater Tournament championship Saturday. The Fillies went a perfect 6-0 on Friday and Saturday, including a sweep Lubbock Trinity Christian (25-16, 25-21) in the championship match. Emma Clawson was stellar over the weekend knocking down 34 kills and serving up six aces. Teammate Jorja McGuire had a combined 31 digs and 27 kills while Aniston VanAtta handed out 54 assists.
Dalhart also did very well at the Shallowater Tournament going 6-1 with the Lady Wolves lone loss coming to Trinity Christian in the semifinals. Dalhart had beaten Lubbock Kingdom Prep (26-24, 25-12) and Iowa Park (25-22, 17-25, 25-21) to get to the semifinals. Kammi Maddox and Kaetlin Sundvahl were the two standouts for the Lady Wolves.
Childress went 4-3 at the Shallowater Tournament. Journey Prince powered down 46 kills over the seven matches with nine aces. Teammate Ava Everage had 33 kills.
The Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates on the Silver Bracket of the Denton Ryan Tournament on Saturday. Lubbock-Cooper, coached by former Amarillo High head coach Mike Moffitt, defeated Little Elm, 25-22, 25-16, to win the silver championship. Haley McCallick led the way for the Lady Pirates with nine kills and three aces in that match.
Borger placed third at the Burkburnett Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Henrietta, 25-25, 25-20, to secure the third-place finish. Addyson Bridges finished the tournament with 25 kills, 15 aces and 14 blocks. Addy Sims went for 25 kills and 11 aces while Chelsea Medina added 41 assists.
The Caprock Lady Longhorns went 4-2 and won the bronze bracket at the Monahans Tournament.
