
It was another busy Tuesday night full of district action across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out this recap that saw Canyon edge West Plains in a District 4-4A showdown, and Lubbock Monterey hold off Plainview in District 3-5A. Amarillo High and Bushland also carried on impressive district win streaks.
District 4-4A
Canyon was able to stay in the hunt atop the District 4-4A standings defending home court Tuesday night by edging ISD rival West Plains in a five-set thriller.
The Lady Eagles dropped the first set of the match to the Lady Wolves 22-25 before coming back to win 25-20, 25-20, only two see West Plains force a fifth set with a 25-21 win. In that final fifth set, Canyon picked up the final two points of the match for an exciting 18-16 win.

The Lady Eagles (15-14) pull into a second-place tie with West Plains (23-11) in the district at 5-2.
Laney Jones made a major impact returning to the the lineup after missing last week for the Lady Eagles. The outside hitter was clutch on the front row on the attack finishing the game with a team-high 14 kills. Teammate Neelie Henson complimented Jones with 10 kills and Maddie Haugen did her part in the middle with six blocks to go with two aces. Canyon’s Brylee McElroy paced the offense with 27 assists and Aiva Kerr led the defense with 20 digs and two aces.
West Plains saw Aaniyah Kitchen and Kynzie Ward do their jobs at the net. Kitchen had a game-high 20 kills and Ward finished with 16. Cecilia Murillo had 40 assists and Idaly Sotelo went for 33 digs.
It was a special night for the Perryton Rangerettes during a four-set victory against Borger, 26-24, 25-22, 25-27, 25-19, on Tuesday at the Perryton Gym.
Perryton (8-17 overall, 1-6 in District 4-4A) was all smiles and celebration after the thrilling match earning their first district win since 2016 and the first under head coach Shaun Lynch. Brooklyn Kile was a big reason for the Rangerettes knocking down a team-high 17 kills. Mallee Vela added 10 kills with Tana Williams passing out 30 assists with three aces. Jimena Monreal and Kynzie Lynch came up big at the service line each tallying three aces.
Borger falls to 9-18 overall and 0-7 in league play.
It was a hard fought battle, however, Randall was able to fend off an upset-bid from Hereford escaping with a five-set victory at home Tuesday, 24-26, 29-27, 20-25, 25-6, 15-9.
The Lady Raiders were able to stay unbeaten in District 4-4A with the exciting win moving to 7-0 and 21-12 overall. Hereford falls to 15-15 on the year and 3-4.
A plethora of Lady Raiders came away with double-double performances. Nevaeh Conner slammed down 16 kills with 28 digs and had three aces. Freshman Chloe Brown attacked the net for 21 kills and had 19 digs with teammate Benett Moore dishing out 28 assists with 12 digs.
Despite the loss, Lilly Madrigal of the Lady Whitefaces was superb with 22 digs, 16 assists for a double-double and seven kills.
Dumas was able to nab a key home win sweeping Pampa, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, on Tuesday. The Demonettes push their overall mark to 17-16 but more importantly are now 4-3 in District 4-4A. The Lady Harvesters slip to 17-10 overall and 3-4 in the league.
Sophie Clements and Brooklyn Rose each had nine kills for Dumas. Clements also added 21 assists with 10 digs for a double-double. Alang Makuei was pivotal up front with eight blocks.
District 5-4A
Following a weekend bye, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty picked up where they had left off sweeping Snyder, 25-9, 25-5, 25-10, on Tuesday. The Lady Patriots are rolling at 33-3 overall and 6-0 in District 5-4A. Snyder (10-17) is now 2-4 in district.
Frenship Memorial kept pace with Liberty by defeating San Angelo Lake View 25-20, 25-17, 25-15, on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers (21-7) are a game behind Liberty at 5-1. Lake View falls to 2-4 in district and 6-15. Bailey Layher had a big night for the Lady Panthers with seven blocks and three digs. Mercedes Rodriguez did a little bit of everything with 14 assists, three aces and three kills.
In one other district score, Levelland beat Lubbock Estacado, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17.

District 3-5A
Lubbock Monterey was able to keep in the playoff hunt getting a thrilling five-set home win against a gutsy Plainview team Tuesday, 25-18, 11-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-13.
Emmy Satterfield was all over the court for the Lady Plainsman finishing the match with a rare triple-double knocking down 12 kills to go with 12 digs and handing out 25 assists. Libero Madi Dewbre stepped up the defensive effort with 37 digs and Avery Bradley chipped in totaling 12 digs and five kills.
Plainview’s Jaime Rodriguez left it all on the court with 33 digs and teammate Mariah Jackson registered 20 assists.
Monterey (22-12) is now 5-5 in District 3-5A just a game behind Lubbock-Cooper for the final playoff spot. The Lady Bulldogs (12-17) fall to 3-7.
It was another night at the office for Amarillo High as the Lady Sandies dominated Lubbock Coronado at home in a three-set sweep, 25-10, 25-19, 25-17.
AHS (24-8) stays all alone atop District 3-5A at 10-0 and have now won 61 straight district matches dating back to 2020. Coronado (19-15) remains in third place of the standings at 7-3.
Sophomore Harper Vaughn landed a double-double for the Lady Sandies attacking the defense for 12 kills and adding 13 assists. Bennett Rea served up Vaughan and her teammates with 20 assists and Kinsler Hanson went for 10 kills. Coronado’s Addison Brown hit the floor for 11 digs.
The Tascosa Lady Rebels stayed a game behind Amarillo High after beating Caprock on Tuesday, 25-8, 25-5, 25-12. The Lady Rebels move to 9-1 in district and 22-9 overall. Caprock is now 13-14 and 2-8.
Tascosa’s Avery Scalf had a team-high nine kills and Gabbie Mason added eight. Addison Merrell led the team with 22 assists.
Lubbock-Cooper is still in command of the fourth and final playoff spot downing Palo Duro at home 25-20, 25-13, 25-10. The Lady Pirates (18-10) are 6-3 in the district leading Monterey by a game for the final postseason berth. Broox Lopez played superb for the Lady Pirates with 26 assists, six aces and six kills.
District 1-3A
Bushland is just one game away from hitting an extremely rare milestone following a road victory at Dalhart, 25-14, 25-16, 27-25.
The Lady Falcons (29-8) are a perfect 2-0 in District 1-3A and will now go for a special 100th straight district victory on Saturday at River Road. A streak that dates back to Oct. 11, 2018. Dalhart (26-6-2) suffers its first league loss falling to 2-1.
Bushland’s Berklee Billington had a team-best 14 kills followed by Laynee Adams and Jori Clark with 11. Morgan Eberly and Jada Scott combined for 42 assists and Ava Permenter added 32 digs.
The Lady Wolves were paced by Kammi Maddox’s 12 assists and seven kills.
River Road picked up its first win of district by downing Dimmitt, 25-12, 25-10, 24-26, 25-19, on Tuesday. The Lady Wildcats go to 20-8 overall and 1-1 in the league. Dimmitt is now 1-22, 0-3.
Sophomore Gracie Froneman went off for a triple-double against Dimmitt, grabbing 14 digs to go with 11 kills and 10 assists.
District 2-3A
Shallowater and Idalou are still undefeated after victories on Tuesday night.
The Fillies made a long road trip to Childress well worth it coming away with a 25-10, 25-10, 25-9, victory. Standout Emma Clawson had a great night for Shallowater earning a double-double with 25 assists and 11 kills. Teammate Jorja Mcguire added 12 digs. The Fillies are now 3-0 in District 2-3A and 24-9 overall. Childress (13-18) are 1-2 in the league.
Idalou was able to keep pace sweeping Lubbock Talkington 25-9, 25-18, 25-13. Hadley Underwood had eight kills on the front row for Idalou and Briley Stephens added five blocks with three kills. Teammate Kambrie Roy chipped in three kills and two blocks with Hadley Underwood and Brianna Fishback each serving up three aces. Idalou improves to 19-12 overall and 3-0 in the league. Talkington falls to 8-17, 1-2.
In one other district match, Littlefield defeated Tulia, 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19.

District 1-1A
Fort Elliott continues to be the measuring stick of District 1-1A. The Lady Cougars stayed perfect in the league Tuesday night handling White Deer, 25-14, 25-6, 25-4. The Lady Cougars are all alone at the top of the district at 7-0 and are now 21-6 overall. White Deer slips to 3-19, 1-6. Ali Mahler had seven kills with teammate Rylee Rose also knocking down seven kills with four aces. Aliyah McCarter tallied 11 aces and eight kills as Jaycee Sewell put together a double thanks to 25 assists and 15 digs.
Miami remained a game back of Fort Elliott in the league race defeating Shamrock, 25-10, 25-17, 25-9. The Lady Warriors (14-6) are at 6-1 in district play. Shamrock (10-7) is now 3-4. Bentley Brooks had a double-double for Miami with 14 digs and 12 kills. Brylee Thompson added 14 assists.
In two other district scores Tuesday, Kelton swept Darrouzett, 25-17, 25-9, 25-9, and Wildorado beat Channing, 25-5, 25-4, 25-12.
District quick hits
Frenship suffered its first District 2-6A loss Tuesday, as Midland Legacy pulled off a sweep, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21. The Lady Tigers fall a game behind Legacy at 2-1 in district and 22-13 overall. Despite the loss, Taylor Loyd had nine kills for Frenship and Reese Roberts knocked down eight kills and three blocks with seven digs.
San Jacinto Christian Academy bounced back from its first league loss sweeping rival Holy Cross Catholic Academy, 25-6, 25-4, 25-7. The Lady Patriots improve to 25-5 on the year and 6-1. The Lady Mustangs (2-19) are now 1-8 in district. Jenni Bell tallied seven aces, seven digs and seven kills for SJCA. In one other district match, Lubbock Kingdom Prep swept Ascension Academy.
In non-district play Tuesday, Sanford-Fritch beat Memphis, 25-7, 25-11, 25-15. Accelerate defeated Highland Park, 19-25, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10, and Guymon, Okla., bested West Texas High, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.
