On the court: The senior outside hitter put together a very strong past week keeping Sanford-Fritch in first place of District 1-2A with wins against rivals West Texas High followed by a sweep of Vega. Against the Lady Comanches, Lucero knocked down eight kills and played solid defense with five digs to go with an ace. In the win over the Lady Longhorns, Lucero had a blistering performance on the front row with 12 kills to go with two blocks and five digs.

On the season so far, Lucero is a key factor for the Lady Eagles averaging eight kills with five digs, and two aces a match.

Head coach Jason Hale: “I’m very happy with how the team is playing and has progressed since the season started. We just try to take it by each game especially here in the district season. We have a great group of players that are very dynamic and Morgan is one of those. She has stepped up from last year and is a completely different player. She is in a new role and making very smart plays every time she’s on the court. She’s just a great overall person and is heavily involved in so many school activities.”

Lucero: “Since the season has gone on we’ve just gotten better and better. I think that’s because of the team chemistry. We have a strong bond and everyone plays for one another and it has shown, especially in district. This season, my confidence is so much better. I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates but I’m playing with a lot of confidence and I always want to give my team all I can.”
