Lily Sobey, Amarillo High soccer, Sr.

On the pitch: Sobey has been that senior leader and a staple all four years for a very superb Amarillo High Lady Sandie soccer program. In her final two regular season games last week, Sobey helped AHS (15-3-3 overall, 8-0 in district) clinch another District 3-5A championship with two shutouts of Tascosa and Plainview. During a 6-0 win over rival Tascosa, Sobey netted two goals, then during an 11-0 rout of Plainview Sobey scored a goal and dished out an assist. On the season, Sobey has been a prolific scorer racking up 30 goals on the season with nine assists. During eight district games, Sobey had 20 goals with eight assists.

Coach Stacy McPherson: “Lily is a four-year starter that has been very special for this program. She is always consistent and has provided great offense for us. Lily is just so talented, and you never have to ask her to put in the work. She takes so much pride every time she steps on the field about her performance. What I’ve seen the most over her four years is she’s become such an offensive player. She was always a great defensive player, but she puts herself in positions to scare and makes the most of every opportunity.”

Sobey: “Winning another district championship was a really special feeling for myself and the team. We improved every game over the year and we’re ready for the playoffs. What I love about this team is we all have different leadership roles. I knew being a senior my leadership was going to change. I knew I had to step up and be more vocal and work on my passing communication. I’ve also had to become a more offensive player. I just able to do that and contribute. Just being at AHS the past four years and playing soccer for this program has been my favorite. We have great chemistry and now it’s going to be bittersweet because this is the last playoff run for us seniors. We want to make it memorable.”
