On the diamond: The junior catcher delivered two big-time performances that got Randall right back in the District 4-4A race last week. After an 0-2 start to district, Holcomb helped lead Randall to a 13-2 blowout win against Dumas followed by a huge 4-2 home victory against West Plains.

Against Dumas, Holcomb had a terrific outing going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three doubles to finish with a team-high five RBIs. Against the Lady Wolves, Holcomb went 1-for-3 to finish those games a combined 6-for-8 with four total doubles. On the defensive side, Holcomb allowed only one passed ball in 13 innings and called pitches for both outings.

Coach Michael Collins: “Landri was awesome for us last week. She did a good job at the plate last year. This year, we moved her in the lineup, so she had to refocus but she’s starting to figure it out and it showed over that huge weekend she had. She is finding her confidence and hitting line drives. Defensively, nothing gets by her. It’s also big that she calls the pitches now instead of the coaches. She knows the pitchers and the opponents so well it makes our team better for her to do that. She just works so hard and is a huge asset to this team.”

Holcomb: “I haven’t been hitting great to start the year, so I’m glad I’m finding my confidence and I’m able to get my bat going. I fixed my stance and I’m not trying to be early on the ball. It’s been really good getting to be in control of calling pitches this year. It’s easier for me and I know these pitchers and the other team’s hitters so well. I just want to keep becoming a leader for this team and I want us to keep showing what we can do.”
