It wasn’t the game many fans thought it might be in a small school showdown between Spearman and Stratford on Friday night at E.L. “Sam” Bass Stadium.

The Elks took full control from its first possession of the game and dominated to a 54-0 blanking of the Lynx in a very one-sided affair.

Stratford moves to 3-1 on the season while Spearman suffers its first loss of the year, falling to 3-1.

THE STRATFORD OFFENSE

In uncharacteristic fashion from years past, the Elks used an newly implemented up-tempo spread offense that was very effective.

Stratford opened the game up early, putting Spearman on its heels by building a 21-0 first quarter lead.

The Lynx never recovered from the deficit, and Stratford’s offense never slowed down. Coach Matt Lovorn’s team scored on all eight possessions, piling up 543 yards of offense.

It was a balanced effort with 307 yards coming by the ground game, and 236 coming by the passing attack.

THE STRATFORD DEFENSE

Not to be overlooked, Stratford’sdefense was equally as impressive as its offense. Spearman quarterback Brenen Thompson broke loose on a 30-yard run on the first play of the game. But from that moment forward the Elks collapsed the young QB and shut down any resemblance of the Lynx rushing game.

Spearman mustered a total of 92 yards with only seven first downs on the evening.
