Dumas snaps losing skid
After hitting a recent rough patch, the Dumas Demonettes snapped a three-game losing streak by downing West Plains 15-5 on a very windy Monday afternoon at the Lady Wolves Softball Complex.
The win keeps Dumas right in the hunt at the top of the league race moving to 6-3 in District 4-4A and 21-6 overall. West Plains falls to 11-15-1, 2-7.
Aaliyah Chavez paved the way for Dumas going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Melaney Granados had a homer, a triple and three RBIs and Briana Vargaz added a pair of doubles with an RBI. Despite the loss, Kaydence Singletary had a great outing for the Lady Wolves going 4-for-4 with two doubles.
Randall wins wild one over Pampa
Randall held off a late seventh inning surge from Pampa to earn a thrilling 13-12 key District 4-4A victory at home on Monday afternoon.
The victory pulls Randall (19-10 overall) into a three-way tie for first place in the district with Pampa (15-4) and Canyon (10-14), which all now sit at 7-2.
Randall took a 13-9 lead heading into the top of the seventh only to see the Lady Harvesters start chipping away after a double by Carsyn Hunt made it 13-10, and an error scored two more runs cutting the deficit at 13-12. However, Lady Raider pitcher Berkley Browder was able to secure the win getting a pop out and a fielder’s choice to end the contest. Randall shortstop Sidney Soria was on fire at the plate going 3-for-6 and driving in a game-best six RBIs, while Lauren Garcia had a double, a homer and totaled four runs driven in. In defeat, Pampa’s Hallie Hawthorne had a home run on a 2-for-4 day with a pair of RBIs.
Canyon blanks Perryton
Canyon is now sitting in a tie for first place in the District 4-4A standings after blanking Perryton 15-0 at home on Monday.
The Lady Eagle tallied 12 total hits, four of those for extra-bases in the victory. Mikaila Gilliand was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with a double and three RBIs. Teammate Brenna Edwards also had three RBIs on including a home run.
Canyon moves to 10-14 overall and 7-2 in the league which is tied with both Pampa and Randall for first place. Perryton drops to 5-14, 0-9.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High shuts down Plainview
Amarillo High kept its perfect District 3-5A mark by going on the road and shutting down Plainview by a 13-0 count on a gusty Monday afternoon.
The Lady Sandies stay in the league lead at 4-0 while improving to an impressive 23-1. Plainview falls to 7-20, 2-2.
Tessia Guzman worked four shutout innings in the circle allowing a hit with six strikeouts to earn the win. Guzman also had two doubles and an RBI at the plate. Tatem Pendergraft was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, and teammate Kylee Lansbury drove in three runs on three hits.
Caprock runs past Palo Duro
The Caprock Lady Longhorns stayed a game back of Amarillo High in the district standings by taking out Palo Duro 33-0 on Monday.
The Lady Longhorns move to 3-1 in District 3-5A and 12-6-1 overall. The Lady Dons drop to 3-17, 0-4.
Jaylen Zuniga feasted on Palo Duro pitching going 4-for-6 with a triple, a double for a total of five RBIs. Kodi Shackelford added two RBIs finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
