From Panhandle to Canyon – A Career of Impact
With coaching stops at Panhandle, Anton, Merkel, Lubbock-Cooper, and Lubbock Christian University, Coach Lovorn’s journey is marked by major moments—like reaching the regional finals versus Monterey and competing at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix.
Facing Mansfield Timberview, ranked #15 nationally, is a challenge he won’t forget.
Ultra Running, Gummy Bears, and Staying Humble
Coach Lovorn’s hidden talents include ultra running, playing guitar, and juggling—skills that might surprise his players.
Game day always starts with a breakfast burrito, and, for a snack, gummy bears are his go-to. If he weren’t coaching, he could see himself at NASA, graphic designing, or even selling firewood.
His best coaching advice? “You are not as important as you think you are.” (Steve Gomez, LCU)

Organized, Communicator, Passion
His team would describe him as organized, a strong communicator, and passionate. Hoosiers is his favorite sports movie, and while he could live without social media, you’ll likely hear 49 Winchester playing in his office.

Coaching Philosophy: People Over Wins, Greatness Built with Love
Coach Lovorn believes the people you surround yourself with are more important than winning, and that greatness is built with love. His coaching motto, inspired by Galatians 6:9, is:
“Do not grow weary of doing good. For in due time you will reap if you do not give up.”
He admires the Texas Panhandle’s rallying communities and the longevity of coaches at successful programs.
Compete at a High Level, Give Back to Canyon
Coach Lovorn’s goal for the season is to consistently compete at a high level. He drinks coffee every day from 6:00 AM to noon, prefers practice over film study, leans defensive, and loves running the “4 on 4 Cut Throat” drill.
The best part of coaching in Canyon? Giving back to the school and community that shaped him.
