Twelve Years of Coaching and a Run to Remember
With 12 years of coaching experience, Ty Hoobler leads Amarillo High’s softball program and serves as assistant volleyball coach.
Previously at River Road, Coach Hoob’s most memorable moment came in 2018, when his team reached the Regional Semifinals by beating higher-ranked teams through selflessness and teamwork.
For him, the toughest opponent isn’t another team—it’s the mental game each athlete faces on the field.
Socks, Bass Guitars, and Keeping It Light
Game day for Coach Hoob starts with the right socks—a superstition he never skips.
He keeps his pre-game meal light and his hidden talent—playing the bass guitar—adds a creative touch to his coaching persona.
If he weren’t coaching, you’d likely find him fishing in the Bassmaster Elite Series. The best advice he’s ever received. “Let Jesus guide the decisions you make, and don’t worry about what other people think.”

Competitive, Passionate, and Driven
Coach Hoob is described by his team as competitive, passionate, and driven.
His favorite sports movie is The Sandlot, and Facebook is his go-to platform. In his office, worship music sets the tone for a positive and focused environment.
He’s all about practice over film study, defense over offense, and his favorite drill—the #’s Drill—keeps players sharp and engaged.
Coaching Philosophy: Effort Over Outcome
Sports have taught Coach Hoob the value of showing up and working hard, no matter what life throws your way.
His coaching motto sums it up: “Winning is not the point, playing to win is the point.”
He believes the Texas Panhandle sports scene is special because of its competitive spirit across schools of all sizes. This season, his goals are clear: become District Champions and reach the Regional Semifinals.
For Coach Hoob, the best part of coaching in Amarillo is working alongside great coaches and players who are committed to hard work and serving others—a true community built on effort, respect, and heart.
