Week 2 of Texas High School football took place on Thursday and Friday. Take a look at the recaps from Class 6A-4A across the Texas Panhandle and the South Plains including Amarillo High staying unbeaten by going on the road and downing San Angelo Central. Amarillo High rolls over Central on the road
The Amarillo High Sandies have made a statement in their first two games of the season by punching above their weight.
In their opening gauntlet against schools from District 2-6A, the Sandies are guaranteed a winning record for the season. They made their longest road trip of the season to face San Angelo Central on Friday night and made sure it was a success, rolling to a 41-21 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Coupled with last week’s season opening 55-12 win over Odessa High, Amarillo High has now beaten both 2-6A opponents it’s faced to open the season. The Sandies can complete a 2-6A trifecta next Friday if they get a victory at Midland High.

It’s been a familiar formula for Amarillo High in the first two weeks, as the Sandies used another big offensive performance to cruise to victory. For the second straight week, senior quarterback Jett Lopez threw for over 300 yards, as he torched Central for 306 yards and three touchdowns.

“I really like how we’ve started the season so far,” AHS head coach Chad Dunnam said. “Especially on the offensive side of the ball. We have a veteran quarterback in Jett (Lopez) and he is an outstanding player and young man. We have a great running back, a big offensive line and unbelievable receivers. Everything is clicking on that side for us. The defense has taken big steps, but they still have a way to go. They all play hard though and that says a lot about a team. I’m proud of that.”

Austin Sluder was the top target with six catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns, and Oilver Parsons had three catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. Jude Dunavin also had a big game running the ball, with 181 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Deandre Sanders led the way with 81 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.

Defensively, Tascosa continued to dominate and still hasn’t allowed a touchdown in two games.
