Chase Lantelme, Stratford football, Jr.
On the field: The junior dual-threat Stratford quarterback was on his game during a 48-14 blowout of Bovina during the UIL Class 2A Division I regional semifinal last Friday at Dick Bivins Stadium. The Elks field general on both sides of the ball was able to torch the Mustang secondary early and often in a limited night of action. In just the first half, Lantelme was a quick 6-of-11 through the air for 152 yards with four touchdown passes and ran for 50 yards on only two carries. Defensively, Lantelme also had five tackles with a pass breakup.
On the season, Lantelme has shined for Stratford, throwing for 2,188 yards with 31 touchdowns with only three interceptions. He’s also rushed for 351 yards with five touchdowns while racking up 98 total tackles on the year with four interceptions.
Head coach Jonathan Murphy: “Chase means a ton to this program. He’s been a part of it for a longtime being a coaches kid. I’ve known Chase since he was really little, and I’ve been close to his family, so he means a lot to me. I love that he is in the middle of the huddle like a coach commanding the offense, and in the secondary his is a coach. I think he has matured and his confidence has grown so much. He does such a great job of distributing the ball and helping his teammates flourish. He is just a great kid.”
Lantelme: “Growing up in this program, you see how great a tradition Stratford has when it comes to football. Now, getting to play on varsity and be this deep in the playoffs is everything I’ve dreamed of. We have a ton of support and the energy from the school and the community is unbelievable. We just want to keep playing like we have been and take care of us. I just want to keep getting better at progressing through my reads and making sure my teammates trust me on both sides of the ball.”
