Cayde Winters, West Texas High basketball, Jr.

On the court: Winters is showing why he is a true competitor week in and week out after two stellar performances helping lead the Comanches to recent wins against Spearman and Stratford.

Against the Lynx, the junior went for 23 points with six rebounds, five assists and five steals. In the victory against the Elks, Winters was on his game once again pouring in a game-high 25 points adding four boards, four assists with three steals.

So far on the season, Winters leads WT High averaging 19.3 points a game tacking on 5.3 rebounds a night, 5.2 assists with 3.6 steals.

Coach Aron Graves: “Last year he wasn’t healthy. Cayde got hurt in football and never was the same when he did return to the court. This year, he’s full go and it shows. He’s got that explosiveness and that burst we love to see. He’s a vocal player and a true competitor that loves to win. He’s always ready to battle and that rubs off on the team.”

Winters: ““I think we’ve been solid coming out of football. This team is starting to come together and we’re having a great season. It feels good to be healthy and playing at a high level. Last year I was never healthy after my injury in football, but now I feel great and it’s paying off. I think I’ve really improved because I’ve been in the gym more and we all trust each other on this team. That goes a long way.”
