Scarlett Pillars, Miami volleyball, Jr.
On the court: Behind the play of Pillars and a stacked Miami team, the Lady Warriors have been able to get off to a 3-0 start to District 1-1A play. This past week in wins over Highland Park and Shamrock, Pillars was on top of her game. Against Highland Park in a non-district match, the junior hit the floor for 33 digs, passed out 14 assists for a double-double and had seven kills. To follow that effort, Pillars had another outstanding showing against Shamrock in a district match last Saturday with 21 assists on top of 18 digs for a double-double and then added eight kills.
On the season, Pillars has been impressive racking up 235 assists, 202 digs, 133 kills and 54 aces.
Coach Keri Dukes: “I love how Scarlett is playing this season. Last year she played the middle for us and now we’ve moved her to where she is setting the ball and playing more on the back row and she is showing how good she is defensively. She has really matured from last year. She is older, she is more experienced and has become a leader for this team. She sees the court very well, she can read a defense and she can hit when she needs to. I’m just so proud of her growth.”
Pillars: “I think we’re playing great as a team and we are all communicating well. It was a transition to move to setter from the middle and being a hitter but I’ve gotten a lot better on the back row and I’ve made the adjustment of being a setter. I love my teammates, I love going for digs and I love passing the ball to my teammates.”
