AJ Huddleston, Idalou football, Sr.
On the field: Huddleston has picked up where he left off last season and has the No. 2-ranked Idalou looking sharp with the Wildcats getting off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2021. Huddleston and the Wildcats stayed unbeaten thanks to outlasting Shallowater last week in a non-district showdown 46-35. Huddleston was able to gallop all over the Mustang defense. The bruising back was impressive carrying the ball 23 times for 201 yards with three touchdowns. That’s the third straight game that Huddleston has gone over the 200-yard mark. On the season, the senior and All-State performer from last year has tallied 761 yards on only 54 carries (14.9 yards per carry) with 11 scores.
Coach Clay White: “AJ is the engine that makes us go. I love watching him play football and I wish more colleges would start recruiting him. I’ve coached a long time and he’s a collegiate football player if I’ve ever seen one. AJ is relentless and he’s always under control. He’s been a two-year captain for us and he just brings constant energy. He is everything you want in a teammate and a football player.”
Huddleston: “This has been a fun year so far. I think we’re playing great and experience has a lot to do with that. Offensively, I can’t take credit for all the success. We have a tremendous offensive line that always gives me holes to run through and we have amazing skill guys, so that makes us hard to stop. I would like to keep improving on my defense, though. That’s something I always work on.”
