At a packed West Plains gym with a very electric atmosphere, fans weren’t disappointed from the level of volleyball they were given between Canyon ISD rivals, Randall and West Plains on Tuesday night.
In a very back-and-forth match with plenty of momentum swings, the Lady Raiders were able to outlast the Lady Wolves in a five-set nail-biter, 25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 25-27, 17-15.
Randall was able to fend West Plains down the stretch. Leading 16-15 late in the fifth set, a West Plains rally fell short when a kill attempt went long and out of play giving the Lady Raiders the victory.
The Lady Raiders (25-5) were also able to stay atop the District 4-4A standings with Canyon improving to 3-0 in the league with a showdown set with the Lady Eagles at noon, Saturday, at the Canyon Junior High. The game was moved from Canyon High School due to maintenance at the High School. West Plains (16-13) has now lost two straight in district falling to 1-2.
Once again, sophomore Chloe Brown came up clutch when it counted. Brown registered another double-double effort hammering down 20 kills and then showed her defensive skill with 16 digs. Teammate Amber Matthews brought balance to the offense with 16 kills and there was more excellent defense from libero Kambree Gonzales and her team-high 25 digs and Daphne Claypool’s 10 digs.
West Plains outside hitter Teagan Hudson had a tremendous outing with a double-double effort. Hudson tallied 17 kills and 13 digs. Idaly Sotelo slid across the floor most of the match for a team-high 24 digs.

The Canyon Lady Eagles continued to soar through the start of district with a sweep of Perryton on the road Tuesday night. Canyon made quick work of the Rangerettes by getting a 25-11. 25-12, 25-11, win. The Lady Eagles move to 21-6 overall and 3-0 in District 4-4A. Perryton (11-19) falls to 0-3 in district. Neelie Henson led Canyon with 12 kills and two blocks.
Hereford went up north and was able to down Dumas in a three-set sweep, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22. Lilly Madrigal and Teagan Thomas were the dynamic duo on offense for the Lady Whitefaces. Madrigal facilitated the offense with 17 assists and Thomas benefited knocking down 12 kills. Despite the loss, Sophie Clements of Dumas did hit two career milestones by going over 2,000 career assists and 500 career kills. Hereford is now 2-1 in the league and 16-15 overall. Dumas drops to 1-2 in district and 15-10 on the year.
Pampa was able to get the best of rival Borger for a key district win Tuesday. The Lady Harvesters won by a three-set sweep of 25-21, 25-10, 25-20. Brooklyn Warren paced Pampa with nine kills. Madison Barton operated the offense passing around 27 assists. The Lady Harvesters go to 1-2 in district and 17-12 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs (11-11) are now 1-2 in the league.
In District 5-4A, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty keeps on rolling after dismantling Levelland 25-16, 25-19, 25-7 on Tuesday night. The Lady Patriots are in complete control of the district in the early stages at 2-0 and are now 18-8 overall. Ellis Roberts was a key cog in the win for Liberty slamming down nine kills.
In District 3-5A, Amarillo High made it 74 straight league wins with a sweep of Frenship Memorial, 25-11, 25-12, 25-18, on the road Tuesday. The Lady Sandies are rolling at the moment with a 7-0 district mark and a 21-8 record overall. Dillan Ray handed out 31 assists. Harper Vaughan knocked down 12 kills for the Lady Sandies.
Tascosa was able to stay a game back for AHS by getting a four-set win at Lubbock Coronado, 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 25-23, on Tuesday. The victory puts the Lady Rebels (16-13) all alone in second place of District 3-5A at 6-1. Harlan Singleton and Blaire Whatley did their job at the net combining for 28 kills against the Lady Mustangs. Singleton led the team with 15 and Whatley added 13.
In other scores across the district Tuesday, Lubbock Monterey downed Frenship (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17), Lubbock-Cooper swept Palo Duro (25-6, 25-12, 25-20), and Lubbock High defeated Caprock (21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20).
