Ryland Thomas and Isaac Rodriguez, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, DL
Through the first two games of the season the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty defensive line has stood out as a strength for the Patriots and a serious problem for opponents. Behind another stellar effort from the defensive front, the Patriots impressed in a thumping of Frenship 44-13 on Friday. Defensive lineman Ryland Thomas and Isaac Rodriguez were in the Tiger backfield the entire night helping Liberty rack up a team-record 11 sacks. Thomas couldn’t be blocked getting seven sacks on his own while Rodriguez three sacks on the night.
Drayden Ray, Randall, RB, Jr.
The junior do-it-all back helped the Randall Raiders to a furious fourth quarter rally and a thrilling come-from-behind overtime win 35-34 over Wichita Falls Memorial. Ray carried the load for the offense toting the rock 34 times for 114 yards, scoring three touchdowns including the eventual game-winner in overtime from 8-yards out.
Brayden Lineman, Tascosa, QB, Sr.
The Tascosa senior leader managed a great game that helped the Rebels to their first win of 2026. Behind Lineman’s effort and a late stop on the goalline, Tascosa was able to hold off Canyon 28-27. Lineman operated a Rebel offense that chewed up 256 yards rushing on the night. Individually, Lineman rushed for a team-best 93 yards and found pay-dirt on three separate occasions.
Kaleb Speer, Dalhart, QB, Sr.
The Dalhart dual-threat QB is following nicely in the footsteps of his predecessors with a superb outing during a 34-3 blowout win for the Golden Wolves over Pampa at home Friday. Through the air, Speer picked Pampa apart going 11-of-18 for 135 yards with four touchdown tosses to three different receivers. On the ground, the senior ran for 59 yards with another TD.
Brix Machen, Hereford, WR-DB, Sr.
The multi-sport athlete had a huge night for Hereford during a 30-20 at Friona on Friday night. In a game between two school’s that haven’t met since 1954, the Whitefaces needed Machen to make plays on both sides of the ball. On the offensive side, the state qualifying high jumper snagged six catches for 57 yards with a touchdown. Defensively, Machen continued the Whitefaces ballhawking ways with a pair of interceptions.
Jacob Trevino, Tulia, QB, Sr.
Tulia picked up its first win in emphatic fashion thanks to a 54-14 route of River Road on Friday night. Gunslinger Jacob Trevino did everything for the Hornets to put the sting into the Wildcats. Trevino lit up the Wildcat secondary completing 11-of-13 passes (84.6 percent) for 307 yards with four touchdowns. He then ran for 78 yards on 11 carries with another three scores to total seven TDs.
Logan Winn, Shallowater, QB, Sr.
In a West Texas shootout, Shallowater was able to outgun Seminole for a wild 52-44 victory in a game that saw close to 1,000 total yards and a combined 96 points. Mustang quarterback Logan Winn was on his game as the gunslinger went 20-of-34 for 347 yards with four touchdowns. Winn even turned on his jets to rush for 76 yards and another score.
Chowder Howell, Wildorado, RB-DB, Fr.
Howell played like anything but a freshman during the Wildorado Mustangs eye-popping 79-52 win against San Jacinto Christian Academy on Thursday. The son of Wildorado head coach DJ Howell has a promising high school football future and it showed. Howell was a nightmare for the Patriot defense as he scampered for 248 yards on 24 carries with three touchdowns and threw for 227 yards with nine TDs for 12 total scores on the night. If that wasn’t enough, the defensive back racked up 14 tackles.
Kaden Carpio, Dimmitt, QB, Sr.
Kaden Carpio and the Dimmitt Bobcats are looking dangerous in the first two weeks of the season. Carpio was a mismatch for the Borger defense as Dimmitt erased an early deficit to go on for a commanding 53-28 home win. Carpio had a dazzling performance as he left the Bulldog defense gasping chewing up 212 yards rushing on only 23 carries with three touchdowns. Carpio wasn’t done as the senior threw for another 170 yards with four more TDs.
Bryan Wonsong, Sanford-Fritch, RB-DB, Jr.
It wasn’t easy, but the Sanford-Fritch Eagles were able to grind out a victory at home over Clarendon 28-18 to get their first win on the year. Playing both ways, Wongsong was in all almost every play making a major impact when he could. On the offensive side of the ball, Wongsong led a strong ground attack as he knifed the through Broncos for 225 yards on 20 carries scoring a touchdown. From his defensive back position, Wonsong also had a great showing with seven tackles.
